I think Joris Vd was pointing out that it's a hassle for most people who are in it more casually, though if everything is rented, it's not much of a hassle, but becomes a comfort and expense issue.

How are flights handled? Just direct international flights into Phuket? I usually fly into Bangkok, settle for a day or two, then continue onward. Are international visitors expected to have onward transport upon arrival in Bangkok for same day to Phuket?
