Is It Time For A DIR Forum???

crazyc bubbled... Santa Rosa is where almost all of the O/W training in the state takes place, as well as CO, TX, OK, & KS in the winter. About 2 hours from my front door. Do you know who held it? I might be interested in it, and I have become acquainted with another guy through the...

Is It Time For A DIR Forum???

but not the philosphy. I've only been on the boards a month or so. Couldn't help but notice this thing called DIR. What the heck is DIR.? First thing that came to mind was what it stood for. I find it somewhat surprising how much dissention and bickering goes on. First, I'd like to...

    Where should I be?

MechDiver bubbled... Another excellent point. Couple of quetions: Light on the entire dive? Where do you "point" it when you're not using it for signaling? And out of curiousity, what other "signals" do you use. Don't get this kind of exposure much out here in the desert.

@ what age u can start diving ????

as you can hold a regulator in your mouth? Seriously, I got my daughter certified at 13 in SSI. 12 is what comes to mind for a "junior" Cert. I think that what it was called. She's due for an update now though. The LDS I frequent has an introduction "adventure" class. I've...

    Where should I be?

First of all, welcome to the sport. It's a great recreational activity I'm sure there'll be a post from some of the tech guys later with a much more stringent set of rules and concepts..... I dive with my wife a lot, usually on vacation for her. She's not as avid (translated: ScubaNut)...

    Certification Agency Poll

across this thread/poll. Given what is my perception that this board is heavily weighted toward the tech/dir mindset, I am a little surprised at the relatively low percentage of respondents that were certified by either GUE or TDI. I would have though it'd be higher. Don't take it...

SCUBA DIVING 2002 (Best and Worst)

    1) Getting a Drysuit 2) Recommitting to being an active diver At least once a month, and in the desert that's a challenge to do in different locations. 3) Doing some underwater repair work on the marina of my sailing club. Some tough conditions made it a very rewarding accomplishment. 4)...

    Questions for Suunto owners.

I used to do that, but I took diving back up and now I'd rather spend the money on dive gear! Either that or my sailboat

SMKChef once bubbled I'm working my way there, too. Is kind of cool, isn't it. It's hard to find that much time though!=-)

My bad dive...first time I've been really scared on a dive (sort of a long post)

that a good dive is sort of like a good parachute jump. Any one you survive is good. And then there's the other one about what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Sounds like you learned a lot from it. Someone posted somewhere in one of the other threads that getting your O/W cert...

    what's your sign?

Gedunk.... I'll bet we could find a statitician (or maybe an economist!) that could that could shed some insightful wisdom on the reason that our poll here is so close. Wouldn't think it may be somethig so mundane as people are born everyday, and divers are people, so they're born...

    I bought One.. VYTEC REVIEW

I have a palm pilot, a Pocket PC, Two desktop units that I use, two in the closet that I don't ,and should give to some high school kid, and a laptop. A sailboat I race, skis the knees can't keep up with anymore, flyfishing gear up the wazoo, and more tools than Tim Taylor. I took that...

    I bought One.. VYTEC REVIEW

Did you mean N2 in your last post? H2 would be hydrogen, and wouldn't expect any of us to be messing aournd with that! It does not specifically (on the info page of the website, not the manual) indicate that it is NOT a trimix computer. My point is I wonder how many people read through...

    I bought One.. VYTEC REVIEW

OK. Somebody with one of these. Does it allow adjustment to only the oxygen,or also the nitrogen %, i.e., a trimix? The verbage in the literaure on their website appears to be somewhat ambiguous to me. After a little more in depth consideration, it does appear it will alow for multiple...

    Questions for Suunto owners.

I also have a serial cable for a GPS interface All of my slots arefull of things like a fire wire card for my camcorder, and a SCSI card for another piece of hardware, and all my IDEs are full. I'm just going to get an extension cord and live with it. I'm inside it so much I don't even...

    what's your sign?

don't really subscribe to this stuff.... But in addition to diving, I fish (but don't kill them...strictly catch & release with barbless hooks) and I have a sailboat. And I used to ski a lot (the frozen water kind) None of that has anything to do with my sign does it?

    Questions for Suunto owners.

Have a stinger with 60 or so dives. Just bought a Cobra for redundancy & AI. Haven't really even been able to use it yet. Struck a deal with the Cobra seller & ended up getting the interface and disconnect "thrown in" . Already had the Stinger interface. Was a little disappointed that...
