Hey Sea Squirt,
My initial post was "cough" then all these things came after I posted it - hmm...
Anyway - what you wrote above - makes me want to dive with you - not so much because you dive a DIR rig, but because you seem to take the time to think about things.
I completely agree with...
Some of the hardware stores also have larger tool boxes with wheels that make is easy to move your gear to a boat or other places.
Other than that I use an Audi A6 Avant - kit up right out of the back.

That is an interesting thought - however - regardless of whether is will ever happen - it goes against how most educational systems work - you take a test administered by the instructor - in most cases right?
How about a compromise -
you take your training, do your written test with your...
I have to vote with Devilfish here -
DM does not mean anything in my book - you can get through those classes with very little dives and not a whole lot of skills to show for it. This sounds like his skills were not up to it?!
just my opinion,

Your policies are very good - and I bet it pays of for you too - I think that if a shop can setup policies and use available resources to that purpose, they have probably come a long way.
I'm guessing that your outfit is not the smallest one on the block and I am going to guess that...
This brings another good point...
when you buddy up - stay shoulder side with your buddy - tyhat way one can see you - it is very hard to see a buddy who is above and behind you... that's just a first step to making life easier on both of you.
When I dive we usually have a purpose for the...
Paul,
Woudl you PM me - I would like to know who that shop is - I wouldn't mind talking to the owner and finding out how he sees things - and I'll be more than happy to tell him how I heard about him.

perhaps this all correlates to the level of effort people have come to expect - how hard is it to get a drivers license around here?
What I have trouble digesting though is how ANYONE can have problem learning the skills requested to pass a dive class - the classes are already dummied down...
Paul -
Congratulations - if I was you - I would stick with that dive shop like it was my own.
You used a term we seldom hear - a loyal customer - that is what will make this guy survive, because you know that he will not only treat you right - he will go out of his way to do so...
When I was there a couple of the operators told me of 5 bull sharks - since I didn't get to look for them I can't tell you if it was true -
I do know that I will be diving that wreck again sometime in the future - but for now I'm going to Dominiica for warm waters as soon as I get back from...
WaterDogs,
that is a very interesting comparison - I think you are right on the money about a host of marketing ideas...
for those with LDS who are listening - My #1 complaint when I got certified - and I know I share this with a lot of people - was that as soon as I was certified - the...
Oh - I'll be back - I really wanted to see the 5 bull sharks living on it though... better luck next time - what surprised me was how many operations were willing to go out there even with the seas they had... somehting about money that seems to skew people's judgement...
The end of April I...
position with the deealer ship is a good point - I'm pretty sure they track serial#by the dealer - now if your stuff is coming back for work, but being sold from someone else... there may be questions.
Low prices are obviously a question of volume and most dealers are not going to sell 200...
Wendy -
I'm glad you had a good trip - I was in the keys in Nov to dive the Duane - but got blown of the ship - with the NE wind... so much for luck.

I have to agree that there appears to be more buddy concern amongs technical divers.
I think it is not so much a training question - the issue was well presented when I learned to dive - but awareness and realization did not come until later.
I don't think being prepared to dive solo is a...
Hmm - NetDoc - I feel like I need to hurt you in some way - or at least force you to dive in our happy 15 - 20' viz here...
200' - pheeft - whatever...:boom:

This is an interesting discussion - I think it is obvious that people are getting certified who shoudl not be...
Anyway - I think the golden word yet again is "within reason", I think it would be in the interst of an instructor/shop to allow a student some leeway to catch up if they did not...
