    Are DPV noisy ?

My Genesis makes sounds, but it's not objectionable. I've gotten compliments on its low noise level from "kick divers." However, if I crank it up to maximum thrust, it certainly does let everyone nearby know that I'm cranking.

Where did you get OW certified?

Monterey, CA, with an independent instructor. Because of a raging rainstorm, it ended up being a private course for the OW checkout dives, as no other students showed up that weekend.

    Really bad diving scenes

The above is NOTHING. The true absurdity and breaking of any suspended disbelief is when the heros or villians are able to park right in front of where they are going in cities such as San Francisco. I can believe the ridiculous diving scenes, the black helicopters that make no noise, etc...

weighting between fresh and salt water

When I bought a new wetsuit for warm water, the LBS allowed me to use one of their AL80s (as I dive with heavy steel tanks locally) in their pool to get my weighting right. I purged the tank to 500 psi and hovered just off the bottom of their pool with an empty wing. After everything was dry...

    Skunked by Kona Mantas?

"Skunked" once (out of ten or so dives), but I had a great night reef dive instead.

    What would you do??

Sadly, I expect this from most vacation-only, warm water divers. Just make sure that the DM does check the gear and know that you've diving with folks who are not as experienced or serious as you.

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

I fondly remember "discovering" the anchor during my OW checkout dives. I was amazed at all the stuff I found on the "bunny slope." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalko

    Neutrally buoyant Piranha?

I have my Genesis ever-so-slightly positive, with the nose being heavier. So, I can push it behind me and clip it off to my right chest D-ring and it floats up and behind me, bothering me not. In fact, I have no idea it's even there, unless I swim forward and feel it tug on me gently.

    Strange email from Maldives operator

I'd contact PADI and see what they say, ESPECIALLY if the dive shop that emailed you is a PADI-affiliate.

Lost 40lbs, need to change BP from SS to AL?

In another thread on weight loss and scuba weighting, someone posted that the rule of thumb is that you can take one pound of lead off your weight belt for every ten pounds of weight loss. YMMV.

Big island vacation / dive question

Dive at Puako with either Kohala Divers or Blue Wilderness. Then, get a VRBO in Kona and go with one of the Kona ops. At least, that's what I would do. Either way, you're going to have fun, especially if you go with an open mind and realize that Hawaiian diving isn't like the Caribbean with...
