Lembeh Resort or Kungkungan Bay Resort?

If I remember correctly there is internet in the management office of Lembeh Resort and the Dive Center. It is another question if they will let you use the PC. Since they also have to do their work. In terms of food, once I got bored of the food in the resort, I gave the waiter a tip to...

Lembeh Resort or Kungkungan Bay Resort?

I found Lembeh Resort to be very luxurious. Everything is newer and well maintained. The dive team run by Bruce (murex) is very well trained in dive crowd management and criter hunting. I have not dived with the other murex team so cannot comment on the Manado Murex.

    Confused Beginner!!

If you are new to the sea, you might not be able to take the constant motion. If you get sea sick you will hate everything! So beware of Live onboard for your initiation to the undersea world.

    Confused Beginner!!

If you are keen on Pulau Weh, I think the safest way to get there is by plane. You must somehow get to Medan. If you are trying to save money then I believe there are ferries from Penang to Medan, maybe Port Klang too. I am in Singapore so I fly to Medan. From Medan fly into Aceh, stay...

    Confused Beginner!!

Two places come to mind, Phuket and Pulau Weh (Aceh, Indonesia). They are both roughly in the same area, the Andaman sea. Pulau Weh is not very touristy or commercialised. Very virgin, but the shallow reefs are affected by the Tsunami. The deeper reefs should be OK. I have not been there...

If you are trying to go low cost: Pulau Weh, Indonesia Bali, Indonesia Manado, Indonesia Derawan, Indonesia Lombok, Indonesia In Indonesia, stay at Losmens to cut down on lodging costs. Perhentian, Malaysia Tioman, Malaysia Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia Sipadan, Malaysia Anyway...

Questions on Sipdan / Mabul / Layang Layang etc

Mataking is a bit costly compared to the others. Layang Layang is also costly with the additional private flight charter to get to the place. For backpacker style perhaps stay in Semporna and take the daily ride out. I am also told walk customers to Borneo divers sometimes get...

    Traveling in Indonesia

I have been to Mimpi Menjangan and it is very romantic and very luxurious. I love those natural hot water springs. It is a great choice. But it is also very secluded. The Pemuteran area has slightly more activity and also near to Menjangan. There are 4 or 5 resorts along that beach with...

Family holiday with some sneaky diving...

Kuta of Bali is very touristy, but out in the remote places like Nusa Lembongan, Pemuteran, Menjangan... it is very nice. For example Pemuteran, there are nice big luxurious villas, horse back riding, diving, spas... no beach vendors. Depending on your splurge factor can also be very...

    Traveling in Indonesia

In Bali, the dive sites are quite far away from the popular Kuta area. Tulamben, Seraya, Candi Dasa, Menjangan, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida... all these dive sites are hours away from Kuta. If you are concerned about your safety, then stay away from the big crowds of tourist. The above...

Family holiday with some sneaky diving...

Mataking Malaysia is quite luxurious with snorkeling above and diving below. Bali is also very very luxurious and probably quite cheap now.

    Travelling in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur is surrounded by land, no shore diving there. The closest islands are Pulau Pangkor, north of Kuala Lumpur. You could ask some local operator if anything can be arranged. Most end up along the east coast South China sea side of peninsular Malaysia. The main dive areas are...

    pulau weh...

Lumba Lumba is on Gapang. There used to be houses on stilts with aircon and built in bathroom at Gapang. Ton and Marjan have a bungalow in that complex. I do not think the Tsunami would have ruined that complex because it is way up there on the cliff as you enter Gapang Beach. This also...

    pulau weh...

There used to be a flight from Banda Aceh Airport (not really in Banda Aceh, about 1 hour away) to Sabang Pulau Weh. I caught the late morning Garuda flight from Medan to Banda Aceh, then got on the Aceh - Sabang flight. Nice view of Weh from up there. Is the small hop flight in service?

    pulau weh...

Gapang beach is more family oriented, Ibioh seems more "free". Lumba Lumba is on Gapang beach, but most of the diving is near Ibioh side. Was there many years back before the Tsunami and curfew.

    Diving with the Family

Bali would be the best choice for diver and non-diver combination. If both dive, still Bali and do shore dives. If you stay beach side / dive site side, you are also not too far and too long away from the precious bundle! Manado are mainly boat dives. So may be gone for half the day or more.

    Sumatra diving

East side of Sumatra makes it Straits of Malacca! Not sure what you will see with all that polution and murky water. Having said that, you have Langkawi and Pangkor, Malaysia side. In terms of Weh the shallow house reef I guess would be ruined. I also read a few papers on the underwater...
