Derawan has other Losmens. Losmen Ilham for example, but this has no tiny dive center.

For Derawan, Sangalaki and Maratua you can try and contact: Pak (Mr) Seno senomentik@indo.net.id +62 542 735997 He does logistics arrangements for the dive resorts around there. Pak Kadek kadek112003@yahoo.com I have not spoken to Kadek for quite awhile. Anyway, Pak Seno should...

Bali? Have you tried Bali??? I think it is great. Has a mixture of everything, including freezing cold water that requires 5mm suits.

Advice on dive trip to Indonesia/Kalimantan

In Kalimantan, you can try and dive with Losmen Danakan. The Losmen is run by Pak Kadek he used to work for Derawan and Sangalaki. So he knows the area very well. If you stay Derawan or Maratua, it is going to costs a lot more. If you do plan to go with Pak Kadek, provide ample notice...

Advice on dive trip to Indonesia/Kalimantan

Bangka lies between and North of Bunaken and Lembeh. It has various types of sites. Muck, wall, cave, slooping... so it has properties of both sites. There are 3 resorts in Bangka. Gangga, Murex and BlueWave (Thalassa). I mainly stay at Gangga, but it costs more than the other 3 since...

any experiences diving w/Taman Sari, Pemuteran, Bali

There is no house reef at Mimpi Menjangan. The closest is the mucky pier with lots of razor fish. They still do have a great dive center. Pemuteran Taman Sari has a dive center. The BioRock reef is quite interesting just in front of Taman Sari. ReefScene is also great. I have dived...

    Last minute Christmas trip...Sangalaki????

Mantas and the turtle experience makes Sangalaki worth while, but if you cannot get there then it really is a LET DOWN. Going through Tarakan is not easy logistics since it does not have a VISA on arrival facility. VISA on arrival is in Balikpapan. For those using Tarakan, the resort /...

    Last minute Christmas trip...Sangalaki????

I forgot to mention, Losmen Danakan on Derawan is expanding its facilities. The guy in charge is Pak Kadek. Remember this is a Losmen, not a hotel. It has a small dive boat, tanks and compressor. It is a cheap alternative to Derawan Dive Resort.

    Last minute Christmas trip...Sangalaki????

When the tide sweeps in from the deep trench near Sangalaki, that is the time to go look for mantas. At least that is what I am told, by the Sangalaki team, sure enough mantas. My last trip every manta... something dive had mantas, then again I was following the Sangalaki team. Once I...

    Last minute Christmas trip...Sangalaki????

I was there close to Christmas one time, it rained rained rained and rained!!!! But since I am wet already, it does not really matter. But if the waves and wind gets too big, they will not let the boats out, and you are stranded. Sangalaki is not a very clean place, but it is quite...

Siladen or Bangka - Which island ??????

Blue Bay has a nice bay and beach, but not much of house reef. Across from Blue Bay there is a shallow wreck, with lots of weeds and stuff. Lots of macro, but not easy to find as the area easily silts up.

Siladen or Bangka - Which island ??????

Gangga is can be expensive as they try their very best to run it like a professional hotel. For a nice house reef and snorkeling just at your door step, I would pick Murex on Bangka. The reef there is in good condition. Gangga house reef looks kind of dead in the day, but very different...

Siladen or Bangka - Which island ??????

Murex at Bangka is very remote. It has a very nice beach. Siladen is not that far from Manado in case she gets very bored.

    Can' really understand....

Like I said it depends on preference. If somehow you are into Paper Pygmy Seahorse, then Bunaken seems to be able to find this critter consistently. The Paper Pygmy at Derawan Jetty might be seasonal. For me no such this as BEST. All about what I feel like doing. For some it might...

Raja Ampat best ... What happens if : I want to swim among Hammerheads in South East Asia... then Layang Layang. I want to go through caverns of turtle bones and shell... Sipadan Turtle Tomb. I want to dive with swarms of Mantas... Sangalaki I want to have endless bottom time of...

Lembeh Resort or Kungkungan Bay Resort?

Some resorts try to make the guest feel at home, but their guest turnaround and make fun of the quality of the food/chef. I do not think it was LR that tried to serve PIZZA, but Villa Ombak in Gilly Trawangan. They have a wood fired oven for pizza. Their pizzas were quite nice...

Lembeh Resort or Kungkungan Bay Resort?

When in a place like LR or many Indonesian resorts you cannot expect the cook to know what a New York thin crust pizza, ceasar salad, swiss meat balls... taste like. So most europrean food that they try to cook does not come out to your expectations. But if you are willing to try real local...

    Connection S'pore to Medan

Silkair flies direct from Singapore to Medan. Zippsy has shown you the website. Another way is: Ferry from Singapore to Batam, then catch an internal flight to Medan. I am not sure how much. Look for LionAir, Wings, Garuda... You can catch a bus from Singapore to Klang or Penang...
