    Layang Layang Island

The nesting area is at an extreme end of the man made island. The resort is almost at the other end. So that kind of takes care of the sound. In terms of smell, you would need some wind to blow it into the resort area. Whilst I was there, the wind was blowing it away from the resort. So...

    Sangalaki/derawan

Was there in 2004, it is still like that in regards to turtle and ambience. Sangalaki suppose to have a booth and talk on diving in that area at the coming ADEX mid April 2004. You can find out about the latest developments.

    Sangalaki/derawan

By the way Nabucco is run by the extra divers group http://www.extra-divers.li/index_1024.html Overall it is good site, lots of big stuff at the channel. Lots of macro if you know where to look.

    Sangalaki/derawan

When diving two resorts for example Nabucco and Derawan or Sangalaki and Derawan, the internal transfer are not easy to arrange. They seem to squabble about who earns the transfer fee which is quite high for such a short trip. Derawan wanted to charge me US$640 for the transfers and final...

    Layang Layang Island

Sounds like the hammerhead mating season is late this year. Even the wet monsoon is late, so perhaps all time frames are shifted since weather and the thermal sea conditions and linked.

    Sangalaki/derawan

Nabucco does have a house reef and a jetty. But it is quite shallow. During low tide it is up to my waist. So I just snorkel around and take photos, tanks are not really needed. The tidal flow is quite strong at the pier/house reef because it is connected to the channel. Not that you will...

    Sangalaki/derawan

Nabucco is a very tiny but well maintained island. They do provide trips to Kakaban and Sangalaki, but not everyday. Once a week you get one journey to Sangalaki and once a week another journey to Kakaban. Perhaps if you pay extra they may take you to Sangalaki everyday. I think the Derawan...

    Sangalaki/derawan

Are just asking about accomodations or diving or both? Accomodation wise Sangalaki is quite basic and more like Sipadan Borneo Divers style since it used to come from those people. Great dive atmosphere and ambience. Fresh water is limited since it has to be shipped it. Sangalaki is...

    S'pore dive gear shops?

There is a Scubapro shop and Oceanic shop at the basement of Concourse on Beach Road. Scubapro shop also carries UWATEC. The Oceanic shop used to carry some Suunto stuff, not sure if they still do since Oceanic is coming out with the Atom. You must bargain at the Lucky Plaza shops.

Taking group of divers to asia

When did you go? Monsoon season? Anyway there are 4 wrecks in Labuan, 3 can be penetrated. Blue Water wreck as the name implies is generally good vis. Was there a few times with a vis of 100 feet. Big fat schooling barracudas that you can get close to. Lots of critters in the hydroids...

    Dive Shops in KL

Would you guys happen to know if dive gear in KL is cheaper than Singapore. Singapore has no import tax on these items, but rent and labor is more costly compared to Malaysia.

    September Trip to Singapore/Malaysia

Bali is great for divers and non divers and not in the monsoon belt during that time. Kota Kinabalu is also not bad for the non - divers, but for serious divers it may get a boring.

    indonesia vs. malaysia

I also know the mountains in Bali are very scenic and cool. Manado mountains I am told are very nice too, but have not been there. Mount Kinabalu is also nice. By the way, have you thought about Layang Layang off the coast of Sabah Malaysia. Quite civilized and well organized diving...

    Layang Layang Island

The hammerhead start to school and mate around March time, which is NOW. They really go shallow. They can be seen other times of the year too, but not as many. When I was there (not in march), I saw them everyday, but only one or two per dive. Way too deep and far for my camera.

    indonesia vs. malaysia

To me it sounds like city folk want some pampering while diving. Do not really want to rough it out. If you go to places like Sipadan or Sipadan, you have to be able to rough it out a bit. The place is not run like a 5 star hotel. If you like that kind of treatment while diving, then Bali...

    Pulau Weh UW Photos

Thanks for the complement. Photos were down graded in resolution to reduce file size and thus reduce loading time. By the way, a Mega Mouth Shark was seen in Gapang Beach Pulau Weh this weekend. Unfortunately it was washed ashore dead. For more information on the Mega Mouth Shark and...

    Pulau Weh UW Photos

The North Western corner of Pulau Weh is more exposed to the open sea, the terrain there are huge loose rock beaches that almost look like a cliff that plunges straight into the sea. There appears to be plateau at 30 feet, another at 50 feet, after that it drops down to 80 to 100 feet with...
