Scenario #3 - Three's a crowd
You and your regular buddy are getting ready for a dive at the local quarry. You've been diving for a year but he's only been certified for a few months. Someone whom you've never dived with asks if he can join you since his buddy didn't show up. This person is...
I just returned from Bonaire and was diving with a friend who also has a Nemo Air. Her new green o-ring blew out on one of our dives. Has this been reported by anyone else? I didn't have any problems with mine once we put the new green one in.
I was there last week for the first time so I can't compare visibility but it wasn't as good as what I thought it would be. In some places it was probably less than 30 - 40 feet. There were a few locations that I felt the thermoclines but I never got cold in a 3 mil full wetsuit. We quite a few...
I just put the Mares spring straps on my fins. The ABS+ is better than the ABS but it is still a hassle. The spring straps are so easy - especially with gloves on. The springs cost more but they are worth every penny.
I agree Blackwood! The wording made me think of the movie The Guardian. I think it is a fantastic list Sam and will share it with my husband and friends. I especially like #2 since that just happened to me the last time I was at Dutch!
Thanks for posting your experiences Sam. I've read a few...
I would certainly look at fins that have them included when making your decision. I didn't know anything about them when I bought mine - just got what the shop had available before my OW class. I love my Mares Raptors and I am sure I could have found cheaper spring straps - I just didn't want to...
I put the Mares spring straps on mine and it was the best 70.00 investment I think I've made. I know there are cheaper universal ones out there but I didn't want to deal with them not fitting right and I figured the Mares springs should fit the Mares fins without a problem :)
It all depends on what kind of diving you are going to do. I have open heel fins now because most of my diving is done in a quarry that is cold so I need the boots for warmth. I am headed to Bonaire next week and boots are necessary there.
I just came back from Cozumel where full foot fins...
Thanks for starting this heavyjeffd. I am in a similar position so it is nice to hear other peoples opinions. I started diving a year ago and took class after class to gain knowledge and experience. I had thoughts of being an instructor but as I got more into it I realized that I didn't really...
That's the problem I have with all of this. The issues he's reporting aren't major but the attitude of the shop and the stress placed on new divers is a problem. I don't get it - you would think that the shop would take care of this. It is minor and easy to fix.
Let us know how it goes with...
I think this sums it up. We are taught over and over, if you don't feel comfortable about a dive then abort it. I think that applies to a pool situation too. I think it especially applies to a training dive. There's enough other things going on during training that you shouldn't have to be...
Thanks - it just seems strange that there isn't a part two for the specialty certification vs the adventure dive that is part of AOW. Seems like there should be more to getting the certification I guess ;)
Mine told me the same thing but they hadn't gotten the details yet. Sadly, I don't need my computer until the end of August but hopefully it won't take long to get it fixed.
Hubby and I both have off road jeeps. Even with all the dive gear we've bought, we still haven't spent as much on diving as we have on modifying the jeeps. Now if you add in travel to nice white sand, crystal clear blue water beaches, then yes diving is more expensive :)
