This is the second Dutch fatality in a month. I was there Sunday. Rumour is that Dutch Staff has told people to not discuss the matter with anyone.
I urge any dive professionals who witnessed anything about either event to write up a report and submit it to your agency or insurance company.
Thank you for posting.
I'm glad that you are okay.
I'm thinking PFO or too-fast an ascent rate or something. I recommend that you talk to a doctor.
Computers don't bend; divers do.
If they all left the boat with no one on board and if they needed rescue, then the boat owner is an irresponsible person. I hope that the Coast Guard charges him for the chopper fuel.
I have to agree with syntaxerror on this. If you have seen more than one incident of a fatality due to CO contaminated air, it would be great if you would start a Thread.
I saw CO contamination once: At a popular dive quarry in southern Virginia a long time ago. Probably 15 years ago. The...
Pete, i regret to say that Boyle's Law is not emphasized in OW classes by some agencies.
Even worse, Divemaster Programs are watering down their physics requirements.
For the sake of ease of reading, I'm pasting this post. Negativ11,in post #20, states that CrossHairs account is accurate, AS FAR AS HE KNOWS.

Good question.
Skittl1321, be not afraid.
Reading Threads here on SB can be misleading.
Just stay within your training. Do dives that you are comfortable doing. Over time, you acquire more confidence and skill.
I would encourage taking additional classes as well.
Recreational SCUBA is a fairly safe...
Thank you for posting.
The young diver learned a lot from that experience. My guess is that he or she is going to be a super diver. The de-brief you did with the young diver was critical to his learning experience.
Look, Sb is a place for people to learn. Obviously, people who know Carlos Fonseca, who I am sure was a wonderful man, seem to know what happened and are commenting here.
Please let the rest of us know what happened.
Thank you for posting, Larry. By honestly posting about your experience, you are helping other divers.
The weight dump issue occurred to me.
As someone who dives NC, I wondered where you were and what op you were using. What city were you diving out of? Morehead? Wilmington?

Jim, it is not the duty of the student's boyfriend to make sure that the proper procedures are conducted at OW training dives.
Did you think that a boyfriend, who is not a NAUI professional, can walk up to the Instructor at OW and tell him how to conduct the class? Do you think that the...
If he wasn't certified, where'd did he get the gear?
Yes, of course, anyone can get gear. Still, the question remains as to where the gear was obtained.
Did he buy a reg? If so, did he buy used or new reg?
Did he rent his gear? If so, from where and in whose name was it rented?
