    EM1 pictures underexposed

'Shoot to the right' (i.e. Overexpose) is a little outdated with the quality of modern sensors. The safe version is to expose for highlights; the ideal is to get the image as bright as possible without blowing out the brightest areas, although slightly blown based on the histogram in camera...

    Papua Explorers Dive Resort question

Cultural and personal preferences I guess - for what it's worth, temps in Raja in April were perfectly lovely at night, never above 80 degrees or so. But I don't mind sleeping in heat, as long as the air moves a little. Aircon during the day in a metal box on wheels is a slightly different...

    Papua Explorers Dive Resort question

I don't get this North American obsession with aircon - it's a massive energy burden (they run solar and generators) and pollutant, and temps with a fan were perfectly acceptable as is. It's the tropics. It's hot. You get used to it. The minimal discomfort is more than compensated by what you get.

Time to Kill in Raja Ampat

There are guest houses / homestays (google the Raja Ampat tourist site, will be one of the first hits), but it is a very remote area, and I'd say if you want to do extra diving, you will probably want to be doing it from a resort with proper equipment, safety gear and evac strategies, not a...

Paralenz - An action camera dedicated diving

That's only lens aperture; low light performance depends heavily on the sensor.

Canon 1dx and 1dx II idenitcal bodies? Can I keep my old Canon 1dx housing?

Ask the housing manufacturer, I'd say.

Galapagos without liveaboard : is it worth it ?

I mean if you want to get the best out of diving the Galapagos, spend the money and do a diving liveaboard. Otherwise, do a few day boat trips (Gordon's Rocks was an OK dive for us, but conditions weren't great, but mostly the day boat diving whet my appetite for what it could be like at Wolf...

Give me your dry suit wisdom

Query: anyone have any experience with Sealskin or Othree? Custom UK made drysuits that seem too cheap to be true (600-1200 dollars); stark contrast with most of the pricing on suits mentioned in this thread, but seem to have been around for a long while...

Galapagos without liveaboard : is it worth it ?

We did a few decent day dives, saw some hammerheads (not a lot), plenty of reef sharks, turtles. But if you're on a budget do the regular budget cruise and and snorkel, it's still an amazing place. But we found the land based diving, while cool, does not come close to what I've read/seen about...

    Skull fracture

Only your own doctor can give you the details you need, because they depend on the nature of your fracture. Fractures heal, but how fast (weeks, months) depends on the type, location and severity of the fracture, among other things.

For Sale Sony RX100-III Camera with Aluminum Housing

I have the mk I and an Acquapazza housing, just chiming in to say it's an excellent, high quality, compact and very lightweight bit of kit. I'm happy with my mk I, but this is a great little package.

sony rx100 m2 first set up

Closer is always better for clarity. Particularly underwater. Water also causes your angle to narrow due to diffraction, so if you want a nice wide shot of the reef you will probably need a wet lens. The issue with strobes an WA is that you need a lot of power to cover the subject; bigger is...

    Help me choose a camera

Not really. The Sony has full auto if you want it. And full manual if you want that. White balance is not great, however, but filters or lights can solve that.

How much have you spent on gear?

About 1500 or so, plus another 1700 or so on camera gear (mostly housing, strobe, wet lenses)

    Chest strap. Dump valve.

Single dump valve, and no pull dump on he shoulder inflator. And no chest strap. Simple, pared down, fewer points of failure. Works just fine.

Considerations around switching to a BP/W

Quite. I don't care about the 'tech' side of things. I just like the feel and functionality of the BP/W for single tank diving. Works perfectly well, and falls squarely into the class of 'pretty much any decent BCD'. That said, the AP diving travel wing looks like a nifty option if you prefer a...

Considerations around switching to a BP/W

I'll add my comments, coming from a similar background (bought my gear when I had about 50 dives, and went backplate/wing). I'm strictly warm water for now. You will likely be able to drop some of the lead right off the bat, since most BCs are positively bouyant, and even an aluminium plate...

Nitrox online - is there a standard fee for the dive shop?

Yikes. PADI Nitrox was 99 euros here, classwork only (and measuring O2 content in the tank). No dives required per se. I'm not sure whether you can just do the PADI EAN course if you don't have a PADI OW/AOW cert...

82 Year Old Diver "DAN dropped me" Needs Dive Insurance???

My standard travel insurance (Dutch) covers evac and all medical costs not covered by health insurance. Plus cancellation and all that standard stuff. 15 euros/month for the two of us. check with a few travel insurance carriers I'd say.

sony rx100 videos and pictures at the same time? newer models?

I can find the RX100 new on Amazon and almost every brick and mortar store with a decent selection of cameras. I have 2, will probably buy another as backup eventually. Only shots I can find, jpg only, from my early days with the camera. First is a grab from video, second is a photo. What...
