sony rx100 videos and pictures at the same time? newer models?

Half, the other half is Dutch ;) I still shoot a mark I RX100, and I think they're still a terrific deal. The later models don't appeal hugely because I'm not super interested in video.

sony rx100 videos and pictures at the same time? newer models?

They're decent MP, but files not nearly as nice as the ones produced in picture mode. Cropped to 16:9 and my impression was also less dynamic range and sharpness, but can't really comment since I really only ever use RAW. Jpg, particularly underwater, is poor.

sony rx100 videos and pictures at the same time? newer models?

The shots are jpg only frame grabs while filming, basically. Nice to have but not the full quality the camera can deliver

    Lotsa Weight

That's...a lot. I'm about your size and weight, and with an alu backplate/wing (so a little negatieve right there), adding 10lbs is more than enough to sink me, and I suspect I can drop a few more (will test it out on the next dive trip). I can sink myself in just swim trunks with an exhale alone.

    Wet Lens Basics?

I prefer bayonet mount lenses (all second hand Inon AD stuff at this point), and have a cheap M67 to AD mount converter on the housing. I mount in the water, because you want no bubbles in there, but just try it out to see if it floods properly without (a bucket or bathtub at home should do the...

Galapagos Dive Advice Needed, alternative to liveaboards?

You can do day boat dives with a few operators out of Santa Cruz (We went with Academy Bay diving, there are a few others). Simple 2 tank morning boat dives, sometimes an option of doing afternoon dives as well. We paid around 180 dollars or so for a 2 tank boat trip with lunch, transport and...

Compact fin for small (women's) feet

    Will check it out, thanks!

Compact fin for small (women's) feet

Thanks, but I don't think they'll fix the issue. The foot pockets on the XS are fine in depth and height but they are far too wide.

Compact fin for small (women's) feet

We bought two sets of Oceanic Accels (formerly Aeris) earlier this year. While they fit me and my size 12 feet very well, my girlfriend's size 6-7 feet are less happy in the XS size - pocket depth is fine, but pocket width is absurdly wide, even with with the hard soles neoprene shoes/booties...

To buy a regulator, or keep renting

the cost of renting gear this year alone would have come to an estimated 550 dollars. That was enough for me to buy a full set of gear, regardless of other considerations

    Help me choose a camera

Agreed. The thing with the Meikon housings is that you have less choice in terms of which lens you can use, and there are fewer wet lens options for MFT than there are for smaller sensor cameras, from what I've gleaned. There are the nauticam offerings, that even work on full-frame cameras, but...

    Bucket list?

Off the top of my head bucketlist: 1) Galapagos Liveaboard (did a few day dives, but that only made me want to do more) 2) Cocos Island (love Sharks) 3) Raja Ampat N+S liveaboard (1 week resort based whet my appetite) 4) South Africa, Sardine Run 5) Fiji 6) French Polynesia 7) PNG 8) Maldives

    Help me choose a camera

If you want simple, I would say TG-4. For a very versatile system that can do a lot very well, the Rx100 with wet lenses for wide angle and macro is tough to beat for the money, but getting pricier and not super easy to get the best out of. Macro is harder than with many a simple point and...

Newbie issues. What is your dive problems stats?

Three incidents come to mind. One was near panic after a difficult entry with so much chop that I couldn't decend without adding weight, so lost the group initially, back the boat for more lead, and then back down with one of the DMs who came with me. Hyperventilated my way through half a tank...

To buy a regulator, or keep renting

I say buy. We bought our full gear this year after several years (and about 55 dives) of renting, and I do not regret it for a moment. The reg breathes nicer, I know it's history, and it's just my germs. Wetsuit is much better fit, and the BP/W is much more comfortable to me than rental BCs ever...

Standardized Hand Signals for Remaining Air

For PSI, maybe. We use it to indicate 100 bar since we pretty much only dive Al80s, so starting out at 200-220, max. Fist for fifty and/ fingers for 10 works fine from there, and is more than granular enough. I don't think I've ever been on a guided dive where the half tank was all that was...

BCD and weak left hand :(

Can you train the grip strength actively? I know there are situations where it may not be sufficient or possible, but in almost every case training can help. You can get grip trainers from guitar stores, or use a stress ball.

    DIVING OVER 50 YEARS OLD

Ah, didn't look far enough, thanks! Had a look, basic conclusions don't change. It's lots of raw data that means little for true risk assessment without a better handle on the underlying population statistics. What does strike me is that numbers are really quite low (few deaths), and are a...

    DIVING OVER 50 YEARS OLD

I'm not a DAN member, so I can't actually access the report, but based on what you've written about it the big problem is (as Lorenzoid said) that we don't know enough about the underlying demographics. These are raw mortality figures, so simply numbers of deaths per age category. Without...

Watching dive videos on Youtube is infuriating

I agree, and I was as well, just saying that most OW divers are probably not fully confident fresh out of training (and if they are, it may not be warranted). The long intervals between dives for us holiday divers don't help either...
