    H.P Steel tanks in Florida

There is also a considerably greater heating effect if the cylinders are nearly empty, than if they are ~1/3 full. Some shops around here charge more for HP fills.

Picking up BP/W setup from the ground?

I pick mine up by the shoulder straps all the time. It doesn't slip. Designs vary, as tbone1004 says you can always add a triglide if necessary.

    H.P Steel tanks in Florida

I have to twist arms to get my LP72s filled to 2475 PSI and always get the stink eye when I bring in a bunch of HP cylinders because then they have to run the compressor.

    H.P Steel tanks in Florida

Chart in my notes says a Worthington LP121 weigh 49.9 lbs. PSTs were usually a pound or two less typically at least for other sizes and there is quite a bit of variation from one cylinder to the next. Faber FX-149 weight varies depending who you ask, this one is 46.9 lbs but I got 45.0 when...

    H.P Steel tanks in Florida

I think you can still get FX-149s, which weigh 10% less than your LP121 due to a slightly thinner wall and have the same internal volume.

    H.P Steel tanks in Florida

Well, you might think that an HP steel is safer at whatever pressure you use than an LP, as I do, though I realize that many don't believe this. You might be the sort of person who likes to follow the letter of the law and regulations. You might occasionally need a fill from a shop that will...

Do Drysuits have the Same Smell as Wetsuits?

I don't dive dry but have never found any of our many wetsuits (my kids dive too) to be odoriferous. We just rinse them after a dive, dry them overnight, turn them inside out, and dry them again. We dive all over Minnesota and surrounding states/provinces.

What size steel tank is this?

3AA2400 is stamped on it in the last photo. Besides Faber didn't make HP cylinders until 2003 Manufactured in 1995. The cylinder has been repainted at some point because the 2000 hydro stamp has been painted over I would guess it's an LP80 which were popular in those days

Filling double LP 50's from a HP 120

I have experimented with various "baby double" configurations and have decided that it is best to have a rec regulator and a rec tank for rec dives. Simpler, lighter, cheaper, less fiddly. This is especially true once you do more than a couple of dives between runs to the compressor. A...

    Cost per Dive?

I mostly dive locally and figure it's about $20 a dive, for me and my kids, divided equally between air, cylinder maintenance, and maintenance and depreciation for everything else.

    Hello from Minnesota!

    1. Dive in lakes that don't allow motorboats, or that don't allow anything but electric motors. (Less useful over the years as electric motors become large enough to pose a serious hazard). e.g. Lac Lavon, Perch Lake (WI) 2. Dive in lakes where motorboats are technically allowed but that...

Washington County (Square Lake) (no permit required except for instruction. Proof of $500,000 liability cover, must have proof of being a "certified scuba instructor" on file with the county, plus $100 annual permit fee to teach) City of Minneapolis (Bde Makas Ka, Lake of the Isles, Lake...

    Is dive certification really necessary?

Well, for diving in Minnesota we have: 1) Several cities and counties that require a special permit to dive in lakes in that area. Requirements for a permit vary. Some disallow solo diving. Some require c-cards. Some require notification prior to each dive. 2) Some cities and counties...
