    Lobster Season

Al, I was just in Melbourne last week, but had precious few days with the folks to visit so I didn't entertain going diving (though I really wanted to!). I moved to Chattanooga in April, and I'm single now so I'm getting a lot more diving in. I do plan to make some trips back down to...

Hey Conch divers! I'm planning a trip to the keys in March, and was wondering if it will still be open season for lobstering. Have tickle stick, will travel....

    Middle TN SB'ers Get Together

You Nashville folks need to pick the place as it's your town. Ideally, I would think something with a seperate event room. Maybe a dvd/tv could be setup to show dive videos from recent trips. I never tire of showing my video from Truk Lagoon.:D So the 28th it is then?

There rules to tying something to the anchor line?

While in Alaska I found a 10 lb. lead fish shaped dowrigger or sinker, and I carried and attached to the anchor, as I don't like going near the surface with something that heavy using the BC for flotation (drop the object and get a trip to the chamber). I didn't have any lift bags with me and...

Since no one seems to be willing to pick or suggest a date, how about the 28th? That's the last Sat. of the month.

Can't speak for GA divers, but I'm sure a lot of TN divers would be interested, especially if it's north GA

    Artifact Arrest

With respect to individual artifacts in rivers or estuaries (as the original post in this thread was about), the State of South Carolina does a great job in bridging the peronal liberties and archeological concerns by issuing licenses and requiring declarations of recovered objects to be filled...

2005 - The year in review.

Funny, I did the same thing. At the end of 2004 I told my wife that 2005 would be there year of the dive. You'll now notice under my Avatar that I'm now a single diver (ha, ha). Guess she wanted to make sure I had plenty of time on my own to dive. It really turned out to be more of "The...

    hi everyone

Hey Iain, welcome to the board. My recommendation is to stay at the Sangat Island reserve off the Island of Busuanga (North of Palawan in the Calamian Island group). Double check that they offer those courses but I'm pretty sure they do. It's absolute paradise, slightly rustic and off the...

    Artifact Arrest

I do agree that if you don't plan or know how to conserve it, leave it be. If you do bring it up, keep it under water until you either find out how, or get someone (museum, university) to properly conserve it. Also, a diver should know if they can bring the artifact up without destroying it...

    Artifact Arrest

That point is well understood and I agree with it in some instances, like in the Great Lakes, or Truk where there is significant historical value, and the wreck and its artifacts can be visited by the many. But a musket on the bottom of a muddy river, that if not picked up will likely never be...

News: Birmingham diver given suspended sentence in artifact theft case

Most of what I had stolen were guns, shotguns, rifles and some antique guns. They really didn't seem to care.

    Shipwrecks in Philippine Waters

A great wreck lies waiting to be discovered in the Philippines. She's the largest (along with her sister) battleship ever to be sank in battle. It's the battleship Musahi! Her and the Yamato were the largest battleships the world has ever seen, and she supposedly lies at the bottom of the...

    Colorado Lobster

Wow, those bugs are huge. I've taken my share from Colorado's ponds and have been pinched a few times, but nothing with claws like those. I think the saltater purge is a good idea to get rid of mud, I wonder how much salt you can add before it just kills em'.
