    Share your Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It's been a great year, lots to be thankful for. I've dived the Keys, Bonaire, the Cooper, the Tennessee, a quarry in PA, found lots of teeth and fossils, lots of cool old bottles, and scrubbed a lot of rock and glass at the aquarium. I also switched to BP/W!

Any diving going on this weekend?

OK, I've been perusing this thread, and would like to throw my hat into this chaotic ring. I'm toying with heading down to Gulf Shores or Panhandle for Thanksgiving weekend to get some diving in, but only if I can find some folks to dive with. I'm cool with anything, shore, boat, wreck, you...

Bottle finds from Eastport, Maine this weekend.

You've got me sitting here in TN getting green with envy! Vary nice bottles! Those round bottom bottles are a great find, often referred to as "Drunkard Bottles" with the idea that they drank so much, a drunk didn't need a flat bottom to set his drink down. In reality, many of them...

If you could choose anywhere in the Pacific...where would you go?

If wrecks are your bag, Chuuk (Truk) can't be beat. If not, PNG is probably the hot spot though I haven't been there.

    Things you've found under water

A bunch of great old bottles (too many to list), lots of shark teeth and other fossils, a stirling silver antique spoon, a line cutter, and a 45 lb danforth fluke anchor that I got 50 bucks for!

    Knife, line cutter or shears?

I plan to get one of those monster Mick Dundee Bowie knives, it will double as a weigth belt:D Of course, I'll have to carry a smaller knife and shears to cut that thing loose from every piece of monofilament in the region. Oh yeah, I have that cool line cutter I found diving with...

    newbie finds a bottle!

Congrats! Unfortunately, you've been infected with the sickness. Soon you'll find yourself dry suit diving in a murky river full of entanglement hazards looking for stuff you'd walk right by at a garage sale ;) Any inscription on the bottle? Was it a screw top, or a flange type stopper top...

Do you always dive with a Whistle?

I carry a Storm whistle, and have actually used it once. On a drift dive in Belize, our group popped up a 1/4 from the boat. The DM blew a police whistle till he was blue and the folks in the boat didn't hear it. It was windy as hell and we were drifting farther and farther from the dive...

    portholes

You must be kidding!! Those things would already be on my mantle! Unless of course it was in a national park or reserve area where it was forbidden. If you don't take them, how about PM'ing me the coordinates. I promise I will only look at them :eyebrow:

    Bottle Find

I found this bottle, labeled L Rose & Co. this weekend in the Tennessee river in perfect condition. It's covered in embossed roses and a large lime. This photo is not the actual bottle I found but a thread I found describing it. Mine looks exactly like this though. Apparently, a British...

    Tennessee River Rescue This Saturday

There will be a an organized Tennessee River Rescue trash cleanup this Saturday throughout the Chattanooga area. Diving cleanup will be held at the Chickamauga Park beach area , right off Highway 153. Lots of trash came out last year, and I believe there is a prize for the oddest thing to...

    1800's fishing anchor

Don't forget to keep changing the fresh water to keep the rate of salt expelling high. I know for cannons, they recommend finding a freshwater stream to put them in. This can take MONTHS to properly do. If you don't desalt it properly, that thing turn to a pile of rust once taken out of the...

Please offer your creative ideas for purposely sunken SCUBA diving items

I think you should throw bars of gold in the Tennessee River, I promise not to pick them up :eyebrow:

    Dive Flag or Marker buoy

I agree. I actually put a dive float/flag in the water, and then get the hell away from it. Not only does it seem to attract the moron boaters, it is an entaglement hazard as I'm diving in low vis with current. So for me it's a legal CYA thing. I don't ascend near the flag, and I don'...

    Safety Sausage Question

It sounds like you may be confusing a safety sausage with a safety stop or deco stop buoy. A safety sausage is a long tube you inflate on the surface to signal your position more effectively. It keeps other boats from running over you, and alerts your dive boat as to your presence. It would...

    Knife, line cutter or shears?

I'm a shears man, but will probably start carrying a small folding knife also as a backup. I've used my shears to cut through 1 inch anchor rope in a second, it would have taken me forever to saw my way through that with a knife. I will also start carrying a cold water line cutter that you can...
