Hawaii diving - rating system anywhere? Reviews?

Whoever told you that you couldn't (legally) do the manta night dive as an open water diver is probably just trying to sell you a class. The most important thing would be night dive experience and your comfort level. The dive is only 40 feet and it's not really all that dark since there are...

    Where to go in Hawaii?!?

The Manta Night dive is a must. Consistently ranked as the one of the top 10 dives in the world. Kona Diving Company, Kona Honu and Jack's Diving Locker are all good companies. On Oahu...lots of wrecks to explore...Mahi, YO/San Pedro, LCUs and Barges...and a few airplanes.

If you had to choose one, which one would it be?

It's not new...just has some different names. I've heard ledge, canyon, reef. It's the upside-down plane straight out to sea from the Waianae Harbor

    What has changed?

That's a lot of questions that can best be answered with experience. Get out there and start diving again.

Hawai'i fish and nature book recommendations?

Check out the Hawaiiana section at Barnes and Noble. Many good books there. As for aquatic life, three good authors are Randall, Hoover and Michael.

    Hawaiian Seahorse

If they aren't worth so much, why are they so expensive when I see them at fish stores?

    What training agency

that makes sense since NAUI can be non-profit but the individual shop/instructors are not. But I would assume that most shops develop their price by the cost of running the course. I would think that buying training materials from a non-profit organization would be less expensive and that cost...

    What training agency

Still trying to get an answer...how is NAUI non-profit if their classes cost the same? Do they donate to charities??

    Diver Certification

Doesn't have to be PADI...could be any agency...just pick the one that is closest to your level. Thanks.

    Diver Certification

Thanks for the replies. I was looking for geographic specificity for this one. But I might post it in the basic forum later to get more data. I will probably add more categories too...maybe add the "other" and maybe "military diver"

So, question...this post has almost 60 views, but only 12 people have voted. Can anyone speculate why someone would read this post and not vote? Just curious.
