    dry glove sizing

Dunno about the sizing, but in a pinch you can just put the type of yellow dish washing / cleaning gloves on the rings that are available in normal supermarket cleaning sections. They are cheap, and should last a few dives at least. My first dives with the Si-Tech rings were using those because...

    Divers bent at Pleasant today?

I don't understand why he or his buddy didn't just plug the hose into the drysuit once they realized it wasn't connected? Perhaps I'm missing something since I've never had this problem at 150', but I have jumped in the water several times with the drysuit hose disconnected, and it always...

    Dry glove system comparison

I dunno about that, not for me at least - your hands can probably handle the cold better than mine. I tried a buddy's drysuit a few weeks ago at Bainbridge. The suit had no dry gloves, so I used 5mm wet gloves. As a result, I was comfy otherwise, but my hands froze, and felt numb and tingly...

    Dry glove system comparison

Pretty much any watertight glove with a cuff that has either a smooth inner or outer surface, and stretches enough to go over the rings will do. And if your favorite glove doesn't match that criteria, you could always glue latex seals to it, but that would cost ~$25 for a pair of seals and a can...

    Dry glove system comparison

I plan to, but right now I'm still deciding how much of the glove cuff to trim. Once I'm set I'll add the tape. Do you have a picture of the gloves, or their full name (to google). I looked, but didn't find good gloves at one the big hardware stores (Home Depo or one of those).

    Dry glove system comparison

You probably have a better method for installing them than I do. I followed this slideshow demonstration that somebody sent me (which isn't a hard way to do it either - took only a few minutes my (ex-)shell suit): Dry Glove Installation The stressful part on my other suit (compressed neoprene)...

    Dry glove system comparison

That's an interesting approach. One could wonder whether the stress of installing and uninstalling the rings could stress the seals more harm than just leaving the rings on...? FWIW the SI-TECH rings were a lot harder to install on my 3mm compressed neoprene drysuit (with big cuff dump)...

    Dry glove system comparison

Attached are a few pics of the OS rings with the "Canners" gloves on them that I use - they are just a bit thicker than yellow dishwashing gloves, so they may not be rugged enough for most people here, but so far I like them. I got them from bob3 for $2, and I just add as much underneath as...

    Dry glove system comparison

The OS rings (with o-rings) cost $58 + another $6 for the overcuffs (neoprene cuff covers if you want them). They don't require expensive specialty gloves. Here's how they look with the $4 Atlas 620 gloves (edit: not 420 as I first wrote, but Atlas Vinylove 620 - XL in that pic). However, they...

    Underwater Laser Pointer

maybe, but i still think it would be too weak to grab your boddy's attention without further prompting - at least on day dives within rec depths (i.e. sunlight). if the fish do really chase after the green lasers, they could be useful for photographers - or even better, for a photographer with a...

    Drying boots

in the future consider neoprene socks, they dry fast because you can turn them inside out. liquidfit sold (used to sell?) them for $15/pair. You can wear a drysuit-type boot on top if you need to walk on rocks, etc. I use chuck taylor hi-tops, but knocks off can be had for cheap - they dry fast...

    Underwater Laser Pointer

I had something cheaper like this: http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=Laser It wasn't powerful enough for much, in particular, i couldn't get my buddy's attention with it, so I sold it. however, mine was red. i've heard fish will chase after the green dots, but i have no...

Bride-to-be dies in Micronesia diving trip

You just ask your doctor for it. There are two tests for it as far as I know; an expensive one, and an even more expensive one. I think one of them involves injecting/generating some bubbles in your lungs while the doctors watch with special equipment (x-ray maybe) to see if any of the bubbles...

So what the heck is a semi dry suit?

The name is misleading, but the seals on a wetsuit can be a very nice feature if they work properly. The ones I had on my Cressi-Sub were the neoprene fold-in kind like on some drysuits (but thinner neoprene). As I lost weight and the suit became looser, I believe those seals made a big...

Slate - rec'd one to purchase?

Since you presumably decided to get the Suunto SK-7, I'll show you a pic of my SK-7 compass wrist slate combo: I cut the corner off (top two layers only, and a tad off the bottom layer) and attached a DSS boot there with small aluminum sex bolts from the local hardware store. You could use...

Bride-to-be dies in Micronesia diving trip

Undeserved hits that paralyze or kill are very unusual - some divers believe they are likelier to occur for people with a PFO (a common heart condition that's generally not considered dangerous and therefore people are not tested or treated for it). That said, minor hits are probably more...

Slate - rec'd one to purchase?

I use both wetnotes and a small 3-panel wrist slate (with attached compass). 3-panel wrist slate, $10-20: PROS: - Easy to access - Convenient for quick personal notes during the dive because it's always there (no need to pull it out of a pocket), and leaves the other hand free to hold...

Hose routing on independent twin setup?

EDIT TO ABOVE: I meant short hose on left tank, long hose on right tank. And yes, the short hose can be a problem. A buddy gave me an OOA sign (test) while I was diving indies and breathing the short hose. I immediately tried to donate the reg from my mouth (short hose at the time) with...

Hose routing on independent twin setup?

Sometimes when traveling, manifolded doubles aren't available, so you either have to dive single tanks, or independent doubles. And if renting, two single tanks are often cheaper than a twinset. Those are my only reasons for using back-mounted indies instead of doubles with a manifold.
