    Advanced Scuba cert questions?

Every agency has a little different requirements, sounds like you are using PADI which does require 5 dives, which include deep and navigation as requirements, and 3 electives, like Lynne, I recommend peak performance buoyancy, and nitrox. As for the last one, where do you want to take your...

    Underweighted Divers?

I don't know if people are really underweighted, I dive with a lot of strangers when on dive trips, but rarely see people vent air from the bc as they ascend, I think that non venting is a bigger problem for a newer diver than being underweighted.

Half of Dead Divers on Their First 20 dives

More than 10 years experience with less than 20 dives? Sounds like they over estimated their skill retention, or skills period. That is why I tell new divers if you haven't been diving in the last 6 months, take a skills refresher...scuba review

Have you had to call off a dive?

Most disappointng for me was getting to the dock to dive the Oriskanny and the 26' center console 6 pack we were going to be on would not leave the dock due to 15' waves. I have to plan a trip back down there to dive the "Mighty O"

General discussion re: Aqua Lung Zuma BC

I have played with the Zuma and liked it, if all your diving is warm, clear water in minimal thermal protection, it is a really comfortable travel BC. However, if one of your trips is to the great lakes to dive the wonderful wrecks...wrong choice, I also would not make it my primary BC unless...

How to have a great dive

I would agree with everything Lynne said, knowing your and your buddy's gear, knowing basic bouyancy, evalulating conditions and comparing with your skillset, and how to deal with an emergency IS basic SCUBA! I tryto impart those valuable lessons to ALL my students from O/W to AI

Have you had to call off a dive?

I also follow the 3 strike rule, and have called dives because of it. Fin strap breaking, mask strap loosening up and buddy with leaky tank o-ring...DONE. I have also called dives due to weather, and getting congested, it sucks on a vacation...but as Bob said, there is always another day to dive

    PADI Equipment Specialist Course

I teach equipment specialist, and I hand out a basic "save a dive" kit list, teach how to repair wetsuits, maintain their low pressure inflator and emergency dumps, we take apart the second stage of the regulator, and I have cutaways of first stages that I show how they work and the difference...

    How young is too young?

Our rule at the store where I teach 5-8 SASY, 8-10 bubblemaker or do SEAL classes, and by PADI 10 can get ceritified as junoir open water divers, who can dive to 40' with a parent or certified dive professional

What to do about HORRIBLE instructor?

I have read all 8 pages, and seeing the way the OP's attitude changed and seemed to get a little combative, before figuratively storming off in a huff makes me wonder if the reason he doesn't want the instructor to tell his side, is that there is a personality conflict. I personally would love...

Best wreck diving in USA poll. Please vote ...

Having been to NC and Lake Michigan, they both are great! I love diving the deeper wrecks on the big lake, but NC has so many historical wrecks and warm water, I will vote NC

What to do in the event that...

My first freeflow happened at 101'...not making the surface losing air that fast, just like Bob said, got with my buddy, shut my tank down, and ascended on his alternate, turned it back on for grins at 30 ft...no freeflow, so switched back to my regulator and did a safety stop with my buddy...
