Since I am frugal (read cheapskate :D) when I was in that situation I just used the yellow faced second as my primary. So if OOA Joe/Jane came to me would still grab it off my mouth.
I would leave as is. Ideally you and your partner discuss OOA procedures prior to the dive and know what to grab. Many actually donate the reg they have in their mouth purposely.
Even if that is not your preference, you should be ready and comfortable to get your alternate anyway, should OOA...
Your comfort in the water has a lot to do with it. As new divers a lot of us would hyperventilate, even while unaware of it. I went from using 10-12 lbs to just 6 with an Al80 in a 3 mil.

Most split fins are fairly flexible and do not lend themselves to the frog kick. It can be done though to some extent with the less flexible ones. I used to do it, but much prefer a solid paddle for a frog kick.

The M/V Spree did a Mona trip in 2012. When I asked Frank about one in 2013 (I asked in June) he said it was pending, not sure yet if it would happen or not.
I would check with him. I'd like to be on that trip if it happens.
