It seems to be pretty difficult to find some information from GUE page because all the necessary links are not there (or at least I can't find them whatever I try, have to use the Search function to get anywhere projects or equipment related) . Could not for example find a "Projects" link which...
I have met couple of DIR divers who have said that to my face so I believe that counts :D
I also deduce things by reading things from the web, for example from that GUE equipment list linked here earlier. that was what I was referring to with the comment, have never read the Irvine book ( with...
if it says only one cutting device "is needed" then certain people of course take it the way that they will NEVER need anything extra. kinda common logic for human beings.
maybe they should correct it a little to make it more clear that SOMETIMES it MAY still be nice to have a backup with you...
I once tested my air consumption on dry land by just sitting on chair doing nothing and breathing from a scuba tank and measuring time + how many bars consumed from the tank. that came close to something like 10 L per minute (dry land, sitting doing nothing) .
when diving a person should be...
I think scuba diving like most sports resembles martial arts quite closely. there is lots of different styles and techniques and opinions and lots of persons who claim that there is only one "right way" to do things. also some open minded persons who understand the pros and cons of every...
Yep computer on right is pretty much the norm. It has the added benefit of being a bit easier to read when using lights.
I actually tend to adjust buoyancy with right hand when using lights. Easier to me. Or using whichever hand is more available at the moment. The drysuit out valve restricts...
What is an "Elite Diver" ?
I thought there was only "good divers" and "elitist divers", the latter being the ones bragging about everything they have done and using their cert cards as ninja stars to harass all the "good divers" out of the pool.
I don't know why anyone would like to be an...
one of the benefits of the oral inflation is that it does not change your buoyancy much or at all until you put the regulator back in your mouth and breathe in again. so you have some extra seconds to make sure that nothing is entangled and the dsmb is good to go, you will not immediately shoot...
I would go with a 3mm stainless steel plate , add two weight pockets on the tank straps for quickly adding a little bit of additional weight if needed. If you need droppable weight pockets you could add them as well. but I would not use the 6mm plate as a starting point, I think a 3mm would be...
yep that gate is seen in multiple Ojamo videos. I think it's called "Hell's Gate" ... it is part of the concrete support structures of the former mine and it's supporting the ceiling of the large mine hall to reduce the risks of mining deep under the lake bottom.
I think the vfx part was for...
I dive with bp/w . the problem is that when DIR divers see my setup they will immediately come to me to "give some tips how it should be improved to be fully DIR compliant"
for example one thing which annoys them is that I like to have more cutting tools on the waist belt than just...
One does not need bp/w with a long hose, it works perfectly well also with a jacket bc.
With bp/w one just needs something to hold it on the right side of belt close to the bp (normally a light canister but if that is not possible a belt mounted pocket would do as well) .
For me it was easy to...
I personally don't like Miflex hoses and I removed them from all my equipment rather quickly after trying them out couple of times.
just a personal preference, I don't like hoses which are
-too slippery
-have abrasive surface
-are floaty at times
-don't keep their shape very well (even too...
I learned this from a youtube video a while ago (hurray a reliable source of information :D ). It makes perfect sense when thinking about it , lots of residual nitrogen after scuba and then starting to suddenly make very rapid ascents when freediving with that extra nitrogen load.
our padi...
I was very interested in freediving a year ago or so but I have so much equalizing problems with my ears (takes too much time) that I had to give it up and go scuba instead.
Freediving should be relatively safe sport as long as you know your limits exactly and follow them...not trying to bend...
yep that is exactly what I meant.... you can communicate with the moray eels with your lights so that they can come to assist you if you have any problem underwater. they dive different regs though so be aware of their hose routing. and they may be seriously narced at depth so you need to flash...
yep that's exactly what I meant. just the three basics: I'm still here (light spot on buddy's field of view) , OK (circle pattern) , "hey, I have something to say or I have trouble" (rapid back and forth light movement, the faster the more urgent business it is)
the local diving club has lots...
yes, but....
I think one of the most dangerous things would be to always trust your buddy on emergencies and being dependent on them.
For a self sufficient diver the self sufficient buddy would be added extra safety.
For a diver dependent on his/her buddy the buddy system gives false sense of...
I think most of the people would never take a OW course in the first place if it would be well over 10 - 14 days training and cost over 2000 bucks like I think it should be to learn all the needed skills for avoiding the most potential accidents and getting better buoyancy skills and learning...
