    Computer: Right/Left

I would rather want to know what is the rationale of mandating keeping the compass on the left wrist. because if using it you need to concentrate on it quite a bit and normally bend your arm to be able to see it in correct angle. then your left hand is totally occupied and in an angle where it...

Why are there so few drysuits made from rubber?

Normal divers probably just don't need a super durable drysuit and a normal trilam or neoprene works fine. If doing heavy work in contaminated water and potentially sharp objects around then a rubber suit makes much more sense :) I could not imagine someone diving in the sewers with a trilam...

When does a new diver become ‘advanced’!?

a left hand single valve or the left side one of the doubles valve assembly with the manifold hole plugged. they are used on the left hand side on sidemount tanks. changed them to some of my tanks because starting to learn sidemounting soon... it is pretty unpractical to change the tank valves...

When does a new diver become ‘advanced’!?

we didn't always do full buddy checks with the instructor on my last AOW dives but I already had couple of dozen dives before that and nowadays the only thing I tend to still sometimes forget is to connect the freaking drysuit inflator hose to the suit valve. It took a long time to get used to...

    Taking dive gear backpacking

I don't travel much but I would personally always take at least my own computer, mask and regulator. maybe the wetsuit if it would fit to the bags. personally I compare a rental regulator to a rental toothbrush everyone uses, to me it is much more disturbing than having a wetsuit with unknown...

    Diving and climbing

I found a very good mountain climbing video on youtube which pretty much sums up why I gave up the idea completely and went for scuba instead. there is different types of mountains of course but this is too much uncontrolled risk for me. watched the whole video actually. the most striking was...

Medical Air Compressor for use in Swimming Pools

15lpm sound a little low to me for breathing air use. It would probably give you SOME air but maybe not enough to do anything underwater. If the compressor gives enough high quality properly filtered air then it should be no problem but maybe something a little larger capacity would be a better...

    Diving and climbing

letting another persons carry everything with you when you just keep on complaining about all the bugs and how your favourite sofa was too big to be hauled there by the poor sherpas :rofl3: then leaving crap and empty scuba tanks behind because who would bother taking them back anyway, the...

    Diving and climbing

I wonder why media wants to make the mountain climbing sound much easier and less dangerous than it actually is but by their opinion diving and especially technical diving is super dangerous and a stupid activity to try :fear: maybe it's because media loves hero stories and they can't see what...

    Diving and climbing

That would be a great idea! One would need to have at least the Advanced Open Climber and Rescue Climber certifications with the Altitude Climber and Peak Performance Climber specialties to qualify and the minimum of 100 climbs on smaller peaks :) That would guarantee some level of skills so...

47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter

that sounds reasonable and would still be plenty of gas for them to share in an emergency considering they need to have a 0.5 bar reserve on surfacing :D That cardboard ad looks nice! I hope the shark does not stuck to the bottom if that's on scale, there may not be enough water for him to get...

    No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

yep that is exactly it :D I also use mixed parts adjustable shoulder strap bp/w setup which would be heresy for all the real self respecting DIR practitioners :coffee: AND I ATTACHED A SCISSORS POCKET TO THE BELT NEXT TO THE DIR KNIFE:popcorn:

    Diving and climbing

the "conquering the mountain" part is something I have never understood and the selfie thing is another. It would be much more understandable to me if they would pack a wingsuit with them and would finish their nice trip to the summit by flying all the way down from the highest peak on earth...

Diver gets DCS on flight home from Bali

there is lots and lots of ocean and very few airports between Korea and the US so there is not many options other than to wait to get to the final destination. Would suck to suffer that long on an intercontinental flight with DCS symptoms  the captain would probably also not want to fly...

47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter

Did they breathe the single alu80 dry in the first movie or would it still have some air left to do a repetitive dive in the sequel?

47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter

What is bugging me is that I know how challenging it is to shoot any kind of underwater scenes for a movie and how experienced and dedicated diving team it needs to do it even somewhat efficiently and safely. I wonder what the uw teams faces looked like when they first read the script. :rofl3...

    Diving and climbing

I was originally very interested in mountain climbing but gave up the idea because it seemed to have too many uncontrollable risks. Diving seemed much safer alternative to me... not many rockfalls and avalanches there :) To me the fear of heights is directly linked to the inability to control...

Purchasing a wing for cold water diving (Single Tank)

I personally dive with a 17L Ursuit wing with about the similar amount of lead than you or little less and either 12L 232bar or 10L 300bar steel tanks. the 17L is a little too much (could easily use a stage bottle or two with it without any problems I think)... I believe a 14L wing would work...

Need a single part - Hollis won't sell

That sounds weird... they are priced about similarly here than comparable Scubapro and Mares and Aqualung regs. Apeks regs are pretty popular here, maybe partially because they work pretty well in cold water out of the box and are easy to service and as said the price is pretty much the same...
