Ears blocked for 5 weeks after SCUBA diving :( help

5 weeks sounds like pretty long time after scuba. But for example the middle ear barothrauma may be pretty easy to get... I got it to my ears when doing the last ow course dives though it was a day after when I noticed it. I had one ear almost full of fluid then. I noticed it from hearing all...

    Weight Question

me in my Aqua Lung 5.5mm full suit (L-size) with 5mm hood, 6.5mm boots, 5mm gloves, lightweight fins needs pretty close to 7kg of lead to be neutral or very slightly negative without additional gear (when snorkeling for example) . I have never tested how much lead the suit itself would need to...

Yet another ingenious UW breathing device

I continue to ve amazed how much time and money and effort people will spend and how much risk they will take to NOT needing to take the basic OW course to get scuba certified. All the diy hookahs and stuff. It is like insisting to only use your own diy recycled paper ropes for mountain...

Overshooting NDL and mandatory deco stops

zoop novo is perfectly fine for normal rec diving I think (assuming it is working correctly of course) . the backlight is pretty crappy though so I tend to not use it at all and instead will shine diving light to the display every now and then to charge the luminescent background if needing to...

    BP/W Weight Pocket Questions

I personally have one small pouch on each of the tank straps and a p-weight in the groove of the backplate. no ditchable weights at the moment. I tried to put some (theoretically ditchable) weights in normal pockets attached to the waist band but I mainly used them for quickly adding trim...

Overshooting NDL and mandatory deco stops

my padi air table says 'exceed NDL>= 5min, then no less than 15min deco at 15ft, no diving next 24 hours' so they suggest at least 15min needed in any case and don't want to calculate any further. I guess one could use deco software to get some estimates for longer stays for emergency purposes...

    AOW before Tech?

it would be pretty annoying to have 5 or 8 or 10 litres of extra air in the suit at the start of the dive to compensate for the air consumption during a long deep dive. can be done of course but I don't know anyone who would do that if they had the choice to use the wing instead . for a shallow...

    AOW before Tech?

Yes they will mention it especially if you ask about it. The padi book only mentioned the suit control method so it seems to be up to the instructor to teach about it. It is pretty common here to do even normal ndl rec diving with doubles (the non tech stuff) so the students will always ask...

    AOW before Tech?

the Fundies would probably be the best way to go if you have good instructors near you. you will need lots of time to practice the propulsion techniques and fundies may speed up the process a lot. the AOW could be useful in other ways so you could do it as well depending on how much it costs...

    Ditchable Weight Option for BP/W

droppable weights CAN be very handy and they can enhance safety for sure so everyone will decide by him/herself after analyzing the dives they are going to do in the future :) I personally think that for me they are not CURRENTLY needed but the situation changes if I do a different type of dive...

    Ditchable Weight Option for BP/W

I don't have any droppable weight in my bp/w setup at the moment. Just a 5kg p-weight and some small weight pockets on tank bands which can host some kg's of additional weight. but I use it with a drysuit so don't have the "heavy wetsuit compressing at depth making one excessively negative"...

    Tech training advice

the deco obligation is a big difference to regular diving. past 45 or 50m there is pretty much no point to try to stay within NDL limit because your bottom time would be only some minutes maximum. no point to go there in the first place without accelerated decompression

    Tech training advice

I am not a tech diver (yet) but most people will want to know your target depth and dive lenghts before answering how much would probably be enough and which courses could be easily bundled and at which point you would need a practicing period before advancing further. If talking about deep...

How many here were scared to death and still completed OW classes?

now when I got a new drysuit which is not leaking at all it is not a problem to dive even in very cold water. The main problem is actually not being in the water and getting cold but the fact that everything freezes when you come out of the water. In very cold water one will want to have at...

Advanced Open Water course in tourist locations with BP/W?

they will want you to be comfortable with your equipment so that you can concentrate on the training. so they probably don't want you to bring any new untested equipment around which takes your attention off from the course. if you have dived a lot with your bp/w it should not be problem but it...

How many here were scared to death and still completed OW classes?

I think it is pretty much like playing with the NDL limits, there WILL be some added risk if going over the limits but no one really knows how much more that is and when something bad will happen (if ever) until it does. steel tanks are made a bit elastic so that they can expand a little when...

How many here were scared to death and still completed OW classes?

there may be some old/travel compressors which could not do max psi but it is more of a problem with the gas in the tank warming up when filling (gas expanding due to temperature) and when it cools down the pressure drops. The compressor output does not need to be overly warm, the temperature...

    Current opinions on Padi Tec-rec?

I would want to know who the instructor is/how good he/she is before attending, a lot will depend on that. I have looked for tech options recently as well, probably will do some type of tech training next year. Locally it is pretty challenging to arrange GUE courses for example and there...

How many here were scared to death and still completed OW classes?

when started snorkeling some years ago it was very very difficult for me to get used to the feeling of breathing underwater. it took a LONG time... but when I got used to it, it was extremely easy to get used to scuba, took something like 2 minutes or so. when planning a dive I actually have...
