Are apollo bio fins really the best fins in the world?

I hope you can see by now that there is no one best fin. Somebody used the analogy of cars; I was going to use shoes - nobody wants to make do with only one pair of shoes. I really like my Force Fin Tan Deltas, and I feel they are a great one-fin-meets-most-needs fin. One thing most people...

    Depth Compensating Weight Belt Buckle

I'm very happy with my old-fashioned rubber weight belt with the wire buckle. I carry 16lbs on the belt. Mine is a Trident, and I don't think I've seen a dive shop that doesn't carry Trident gear.

    Where have they been spotted?

Force Fins in the photo on page 44 of the November 2011 issue of Dive Training magazine. Actually, I think I've seen that photo somewhere before.

    Cylinders in cars

I was thinking about making the frame out of steel, welded mostly, but probably in two or three sections bolted together to make it possible to remove, and fastened to the car at the points where the rear seat backs are attached now. It would have vee-shaped "nests" which would accommodate...

    Cylinders in cars

The idea is to build a removable rack, thus not diminishing the resale value of the car. In fact, by using a rack instead of just letting the cylinders roll around and scratch things, one of the goals of this project is to preserve the car as much as possible. In response to your comments about...

4, would like room for maybe 6, plus weight belts and extra weights.

    Cylinders in cars

I've seen several types of, and plans for, racks to hold cylinders in cars, but almost all of those are loose, with no real connection with the car. A common practice seems to be to just wedge the things into place. There seems to be no consideration of how the cylinders will act in a collision...

Where did I go with my force fins?

Here's my video of our dive at Possession Beach Waterfront Park. http://vimeo.com/30473546

Where did I go with my force fins?

The tire reef at the marina in Langley is our "old reliable" dive, where we can go when the conditions (current, wind) are not good at other local shore dives. This night the visibility was better than usual. 30359948

How strong of a swimmer are you?

I'm definitely not a strong swimmer, but I'm comfortable in the water, so that means I'm relaxed, and that means I can swim for a long time without getting tired. Now, when I have to swim against a swift current this level of ability is not so good, so I address that issue by trying to plan so...

Where did I go with my force fins?

Possession Beach Waterfront Park Today we went deep - 100 ft - to see the orange sea pens and what have you. Actually, the sea pens start at 30 ft, we just wanted to see what was down there. And on the surface interval I discovered another reason why Force Fins rule - you can't use regular...

Using Non-Dive Bags For Dive Gear

We get all our gear bags from the local thrift store. Hardly ever pay more than a couple of dollars. Laptop and camera bags have padding. Even plastic zippers will freeze up if you don't rinse off the salt water. The last "Scuba" bag I had, I had to cut into it to get my fins out. After that, el...

    DIY Regulator Maintenance Discussion: MARES

I got my manual online, and I can't find a date on it anywhere, but the procedure you describe is pretty much what my manual says. Instead of "a couple of threads exposed" on the poppet body, mine says "until approximately 1/16" of the poppet stem is protruding from the nut." The thing is, I...

    DIY Regulator Maintenance Discussion: MARES

Apparently there's some confusion as to the terminology. I was trying to use the terms from the parts list and exploded diagram in my Mares manual. I'm used to calling the fixed orifice that the air goes through the seat, and the moving rubber or plastic part that seals against it the poppet...

    DIY Regulator Maintenance Discussion: MARES

Well, it is damaged. The HP seat (poppet seat/orifice) has a scratch right across the sealing face. Amazingly, it seems to be holding IP between 142 and 148 PSI, for now. I thought it was creeping pretty bad, but it settled down after more cycles. But the face of the poppet itself also has...

    DIY Regulator Maintenance Discussion: MARES

Thanks for the tips about generic parts. But what about parts that aren't in the kits? I need to replace the poppet and seat in an MR22 1st stage, and also in an Abyss 2nd. It's starting to look like the only way to get these parts is to take the regs in to be serviced by a dealer.

    Venting or Equalizing Dry Gloves?

I don't have seals under my dry gloves. I don't think there's any way I'd be able to remove whatever I had put under them. I haven't had a leak yet, but I bet I'd call the dive if I did. I cannot imagine doing a whole dive with a wet hand. I never dive with any type of ceiling, and never in...

Where did I go with my force fins?

We're lucky in that Keystone is the most convenient place for us to dive, and it's one of the best dive spots around. I hope my video-taking skills will improve with more practice. I have to say, I don't know how those guys who use split fins can take pictures at all. I really rely on the...

    Dizzy Spells at 90'

DAN does. I recommend joining DAN to all divers. I don't know if you can access their database of diving doctors without joining.
