    the truth about DM's

To be honest, I'd not call you a DM. I'd elevate you to deckhand or captains mate, who happens to also be dive certified. In reality, I'm jealous of your status, but that said, I get bored easy and though I've volunteered to set the anchor, tie the lines, wash the boat etc and its a lot of...

How much weight will I need?

FWIW, with my 8/7, 100 steel and 19 pony, I'm 8lbs total in fresh, and 16lbs total in salt. The pony might add 2lbs to that, but realistically I don't change my weighting with or without it. I'm 5'8" 165lbs if that helps....

    Lake Rawlings Temp?

Just for comparison Dutch springs is about the same as this...dove last weds and surface to 25' was mid to low 60's.. Drop to 45' and it was 45degs. Chilly in a wetsuit at depth....viz was good at 35' tho.... :)

How much weight will I need?

There's a BP&W calculator in this section. Download it and do the math. It's spot on, at least it was for me. That said I've found that the weight of my back inflate is basically the same as my wing and harness setup. Just make the overall weights the same and you're there....

8mm thick wetsuit? did I miss something?

I dive a Aqualung 8/7 solafx and it looks nothing like that ie mine is way thinner.. I'd say you have the wrong picture as that looks more like survival suit stuff to me...

Shears + line cutter + locking sheath oh man! Way to go Leatherman!

Ditto. All flash and no gas. I perfer to have one of each - knife, trilobite, and shears stored in different places. If I drop one I have another to work with. In general though, I've found the $3 medial trauma shears are by far the best. Rust? Who cares. But for the most part they dont...

    Stupid filter install question

I always thought it was spelled with a "y" as in dykes (the other female definition with the same spelling being an offshoot of it, not sure why really), with the ""i" version being a geological formation...

    Stupid filter install question

I wound up using a box cutter as my tab ripped off trying to use a set of pliers to break it. Anyway, I'm long passed this now, and the compressor passed O2 compatible air testing.

    Stupid filter install question

I read it, but it wasn't directions - was the logical first place to look. I don't remember exactly what it said now beyond the cart number....

Rix SA-6 Rebuild - winter project

She passed O2 compatible -2003 (I) & CGA G-7.1-2011 GRADE E tests today with the LF 65240 filter cartridge. Better news is that without any filtering, just using the coalescers, she passed everything for the above specs, except for water which dewpointed at -45F instead of the spec -65F. So...

    Stupid filter install question

So guys, this set up (see pics) makes sense to me pressure wise. Am I right? (I originally had the flat ring down on the bevel right before the threads start, though the wide gap and narrow oring was a head scratcher that way...) I set the base up the opposing way...

    Stupid filter install question

god dammit. Now I'm hot! Friggin' pissed to the 9's. Swampy, dude, thanks for the info. Truly, you got my back. But No thanks to Jim on this one - no info on the stack or on the filters. -1 for you. And pay attention ti325v. It pays to ask stupid questions. -1 for making me feel like an...

    Stupid filter install question

Wait a sec. You mean they both ride in the groove? The backup ring beneath the oring? Like with a 2nd stage piston ring and an oring underneath it?

    Stupid filter install question

Yes, that's the one. But argh..... I'll have to check to see which side I put towards the pressure, since it looked to me more like one smooth side, and the other with mould lines, vs convex and concave....

NC or SC, where to go?

Buddy of mine is hosting a trip to Hatteras first week in June https://semdive.com/event/cape-hatteras-dive-trip/ He's a one man dive op, but the boat is Capt Dave Summer's. Wife and I have done this 3 yrs running now. Not sure if he's filled all the slots, but worth a check if you want...

    Stupid filter install question

I didn't find any instructions anywhere - least of all on the LF website where I'd expect them - and of course, they're closed on the weekend. You got a good memory though - Yes I have a canister to pack my own; but I'm baselining the compressor with fallback filters that I know I can get...

    Stupid filter install question

Thanks - that's what I thought, but it wasn't coming apart as I expected, so rather than break what looks obvious, I'll take the bruised ego instead. With 9mos under my belt on the rebuild of this compressor with no real documentation to speak of, I don't really want to f-it up on the last...

    Stupid filter install question

I'm sure this is a really stupid question, but I just don't know and don't want to waste money. I'm just putting the LF filter in for the first time. This is the top (the bottom has an obvious plug). Is this center section that looks like a plug with a tab supposed to come out? It doesn't...
