    Looking for a light....

I have 4 DRIS 1K shorties- 2 for me 2 for the wife. Super small package, brighter than anyone elses that I've dove with. One always hangs on my right shoulder ring, and I DM in the murk. The second is for night dives and it hangs off the same shoulder for that. Both on at the same time was a...

Running low on air quickly - need help and guidance

No no, not implicit at all. You said, return on her gas supply. That's part of the "dive" plan. But in the case of catastrophic loss of air, the dive is over, the dive plan is gone. The survival plan is now in effect. And the survival plan wrt catastrophic gas loss, is a redundant gas...

Running low on air quickly - need help and guidance

Rubbish. We're not caving here. Up is life. You and your buddy go up.

Long time diver, first time subscriber......

Welcome! Its kinda US centric sometimes, but for sure there's someone from everywhere in the world here. Read what you see on SB with a grain of salt. There are a few camps of thought that go at it every now and again - sometimes with religious zeal. Advice is worth what you pay for it. But...

Running low on air quickly - need help and guidance

Theres a lot of good (and long) advice here. I didn't read it all, and I'm sure its been mentioned, but if youre dive buddies are women, forget about matching them and get a bigger tank. I'm always the limiting air factor when diving with my wife (99% of the time), so I bought 120s to dive...

How to back mount a pony?

I use the X-bracket and a cam band. But on my hatteras trip, both captains mates were using a pony saddle ala Northeast scuba Northeast Scuba Supply - Online Catalog - Tanks A simple slip under the main tank cam bands. And both were also diving 30cu ponys like me. FWIW, I had to help the two...

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

Wow, now that is sweet. I just don't get why we don't have a similar thing for the DelMarVA. FWIW, it seems like NJ more than its fair share of rabid divers. Why is that? Viz can't be that much better up your way.....what gives?

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

Not really given that you need to have the old 1st stages already....everytime I looked into creating a transfill from new parts, the cost came close to the actual sale cost.... ....so I said "screw it" bought a compressor. Its a very expensive transwhip....;)

Fresh air intake on a Rix

Nope. What you see is what you get. But thats aluminum tape, not foil. Wonderful stuff. But any kind of tape would have worked really, but I like this stuff best for sealing as it forms and stretches. Used a lot on microwave combiners and waveguide joints...and HVAC low velocity ducting...

Fresh air intake on a Rix

Couple of pics of the fresh-air intake I installed over the past few days - not to thump my chest or anything, but maybe it'll help someone thinking about or gonna do similar... In the way of context, I moved my Rix from the garage to the basement - better air, cooler, inside, close to the...

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

I agree with Dump and mark (I'm not a complete jack_$$). Air, air and only air in my ponies, for exactly the same reasons. I don't get nitrox for free, so matching for everydive is not cost effective; but I pump my own air, so I do get to play with the pony for training anytime and not feel...

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

Youre right; there is nothing you can teach me. I prefer instructors who have a real job. They are far more well rounded than you.

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

So help me out with this Dump - does a 30 become less heavy big and cumbersome below 90'? I just dove with a guy doing doubles to 90' off Hatteras. On Monday I did 2 50 min dives at <15' standing on my head catching crayfish the entire time. With my 120 and 30 pony. Guy next to me was doing...

    Bad News about Lionfish

I know lionfish are good eats (I look for them specifically for my belly everytime I dive), and I've been told snakehead are also. Why can't we just eat our way out of this problem, like donuts! Anyone hungry?

Balance BC - removing single cam band and replacing with dual Griplock?

Uh, I dive a steel 120 with a 30 pony on back on the Balance. Just finished my solo course with it. Not sure why you want 2 bands. Mine are secure in any position, head up, level, and head vertical down (ie crayfish hunting, which requires a complete feet-to-the-sun position). No slips...

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

I just got my solo cert this past weekend. You don't need it to really get at the importance of a pony, but it will reenforce the entire thought process, which I'd liken to a "survivalist" mentality. As for the Highland, I use it paired with an Aqualung ABS octo - yea the lowly ABS. You can...

    Stupid filter install question

Hmmm, well, if the trailer has good fans so the air moves well, its not a stupid idea per say really. Lots of stuff sits out working its a$$ off in the heat - think transformers, semis, cowboys (haha). Yeah its hot. Youre best bet is to talk to the manufacturer and ask them what the...

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

The "pin" of which he speaks has an oring on each end and is called a spool. As I remember its purpose it to calm the spg so readings are steady, not a sealing device really. Not to be confused with a spool of line ie finger spool....

Couple questions on a pony bottle for bail out

Well I guess I'll be the lone wolf, but I back mount my 30. But I also spear so any of the drings for slinging are stringer atch points for me. Same for any other scuba spearos I've gone with, but its not a hard and fast rule or anything. My wife does the same pony-wise as she gopros and its...
