    First Time Diving Doubles

Well I'm late to the party but here is my story. Coming from diving single Steel 3442 100s and AL80s, I put together a pair of LP108s to start my cavern and cave training. I jumped in the pool the first time and could not trim out. My head just wanted to sink, other than that things weren't too...

    Cave No Way!!

I strongly suspect they won't. Can you name a cave instructor that would think this is anything but total insanity? I can't. Could they find someone willing to do this - probably, but I doubt that person will be a cave instructor.

    Figuring thirds....

Couldn't agree more - convert to Cubic Feet and then turn is when either diver has used 1/3 of the smaller cubic feet number. In this case 57cuft. I wouldn't count on making sure to put the diver with the highest SAC in the smallest tanks. Or other non foolproof methods. Do the math, live the...

    Vertigo on ascent

I get this fairly often for me its when my ears don't equalize at the same rate. As with JeffG's brother cold water seems to do it more often.

    How fast do U descend?

I agree as fast as my ears *edit or my buddy's ears* allow - but if you have to ascend to clear you are going too fast and risk damage to your middle ear.

    Don/Doff BP/W

I find it easier to dof/don my BP/W in the water than out. In the water you can pretty much move anyway you need and the BP/W is pretty much weightless. My biggest problem is getting out on land when in my drysuit, get the shoulder strap over that shoulder dump can be a pain.

    Narc'd? First Deep Dive...

My first dive to ~130 I didn't feel much different - but everything was much louder. My thinking and actions stayed rather clear. However I few weeks ago on a dive to only 85 feet I felt narc'd and had to fight off the tunnel vision and single tracked thought process. A repeat dive that same day...

    Drysuit Help?

I didn't take a class just got in the pool and played around alot. Eventually I felt in control in the pool and then went and did some easy shallow dives. Those felt good and eventually I just barely have to pay attention to the drysuit on most dives. If you are standing in the pool and getting...

    Doubles etc.

100% agree. I have doubles on the way and plan to dive a whole bunch of minimum deco dives before ever thinking about deco. For me doubles is more about redundancy than more air, especially as I move from cavern to cave. If and when I take DIR-F I want to be comfortable in my doubles.

    Nitrox problem, is it normal?

I never said you would die if you made a dive to 1.4 PP02. I know many spend deco at 1.6 - that being a non-working part of the dive - to maximize o2 exposure to decrease deco times. I'm well aware of the oxygen clock and calculating you 02 exposure. Everything is scuba is a recommendation...

    Nitrox problem, is it normal?

Which part are you calling wrong? I don't see a problem going to 110 with 32% on a nice day. However many people and agencies recommend a pp02 of 1.2 or less on any significant profile. Significant is a relative term - if the water is fairly cold for them, the depth pretty deep, current...

    Buoyancy Tips...

No matter how much you weigh if you get neutral (using your BC) with normally inflated lungs then a deep inhale will make you positive. However the more mass the longer it will take to overcome your inertia and see the effect on your buoyancy.

Divemasters/Resorts making you flood and clear?

Thats too funny, the internet isn't as large as you think it is. :) Thought you were making fun of some random smoe and it turns out to be Bob! :D

Divemasters/Resorts making you flood and clear?

That "consensus" simply suggested this wasn't a big deal (mask and reg check), it had nothing to do with PADI certification standards as you suggest. I believe the biggest reason for these checks are vacation divers who dive once maybe twice a year. They may have passed their OW with flying...

Divemasters/Resorts making you flood and clear?

I'm all for being left alone and doing the dives I want to do. In this case I don't see it as a big deal - hop in clear mask and exchange reg, if you are good - go on your way - if not they are probably doing you a favor. Bottom line, its a business and they are free to run it as they see fit...

    Buoyancy Tips...

I think if you lay on the bottom and add enough air that you start to float - you are positively buoyant at that point - not neutral. As you rise the air in the BC expands making you more positive. Its really touchy in < 10 feet of water. You could dump a tiny amount as soon as you start to...

    log book checks?

Yeah, my wife and I dove the grove before we had our AOW. Our solution was to dive with the operator all week. I told them we will dive with you all week (they had a trip to the Grove schedule the last day we were there), based on our diving through out the week, you tell us if we can go on the...

    What haven't you forgotten?

I tend to forget footwear for some reason. I forgot to load our boots for our Spiegel Grove dive - we wear open heel fins. We were at the boat early and could have gone back but didn't realize it till the boat was almost ready to leave. My wife and I both had on Tevas and they worked great...

    when spring straps break ...

Carry cave line? Yup on my spool in my right pocket. I feel bad the guy died but how did he die? Did he have a reg in his mouth? Connect inflator - get a little bit positive. can't connect inflator - manually inflate - get a little bit positive. I agree not having fins in a current can get...
