If my wife wants to come along and have a vacation as I am training, is there a special for accomodations along that route? This whole course is exactly what I want to get into as I get ready to retire from the military, and I am seriously considering it.

+1 for the Scuba Goop. I used something similar on a lot of my gear an haven't had any issues. Great for booties and wetsuits, and gloves too!! Anything that you think might get mistaken for someone elses gear is worth marking.

I would say 40 is nowhere close to being too old to become a DM. However, I will say, based on the miniscule amount of experience I have compared to some of the folks on here, don't rush it. Every certification you achieve will build on the next, and take the time to learn from those...

Congrats!! I'm waiting on my paperwork to go through right now as well. How long did it take for them to process it? I'm really excited and am yet another step closer to being able to teach others how to enjoy life under the surface.

My back inflate does the same thing occasionally, and I have to dip the other shoulder to balance it and get the air bubble to shift a little.

My instructors highly stressed the 3 min stop at 15' and when I become an instructor, I will do the same. Pretty sure they (PADI) have a good reason to keep pushing it, and not too many issues have ever come from doing it. That being said, I know occasionally the unexpected surface will happen...

Just a heads up for any of you planning to use Dream Divers in November. Dream Divers just contracted the Dream Island boat out from under us to the Saudi Government to conduct a water quality survey north of Yanbu for 6 weeks starting mid-November. As a result they cancelled our live aboard...

Double check that DD has boats still. They just cancelled our liveaboard trip that was to be the end of Nov-beginning of Dec because they gave the boats to the Saudi govt for some kind of water testing thing they are doing.

It's good to hear great reviews about Desert Sea Divers. We had a group of 18 set up to go with Dream Divers liveaboard the end of Nov/early Dec weekend. A few weeks ago they told our dive lead that they had given the boat we were on to the Saudis for some kind of water quality testing/survey...

Beautiful!!! I miss back home at that time of the year. But then the snows start....and it becomes a little less fun!

That's pretty crazy! I would have to go and change my wetsuit after that. I personally wouldn't be in the water with them chumming the water the way it looked like they were. He really got pretty lucky on that one.

Bummer about the damage. Had many great times over there. Assisting with the students there off the seawall was a blast, and I miss diving Maeda. I hope not too much damage took place, and hope it is able to bounce back. Enjoy Oki!!!

Welcome aboard! I got introduced to my new addiction when we were in Okinawa, and have never looked back. My wife used to tell me I spent more time at the dive shop than I did at home, and then she used to get mad that I was gone very weekend assisting with the dive classes. My neighbor was a DM...
