What makes trust me dives bad, and what makes them worse?

OK, that makes me feel a little better about turning my night trust-me into a night lesson. I will be sure to ask about the skills too. I think I was a little less worried than most. I had already figured out I needed a bailout plan by reading this forum. I lurked here for a while before...

What makes trust me dives bad, and what makes them worse?

Oh yeah, good point. I never thought of that formally as dive planning. I usually did most of that sort of stuff as good trip research. I am a well practiced tourist. You should see how long I take to research going to a different restaurant. :D I think I will incorporate this idea into...

What makes trust me dives bad, and what makes them worse?

A lot of definitions for trust me dives are given here, but the definition I like the best is that if the leader suddenly disappeared could you and your buddy (or maybe just you if it was a really bad situation) get back to safety. I was wondering which factors make trust me dives and lack of...

Math question - am I an air hog?

If you signed up for AOW for the pure reason of not wanting to be stuck with an insta-buddy, then I wonder if this forum has gone a little overboard. :hiding: I think everyone should have some concern, but it should not scare the bejesus out of you. And pre-dive interviewing should help a bit...

    Bail-out the diveleader?

I agree, and that is correct. If they require aid in any way from any one in the group they are leading, including their buddy if they have one. Includes OOA, entanglement, animal or reef injury, knocked unconscious, panic attack, whatever else... Fair enough. :cool2: OK, that is a great...

Good way to practice task loading?

Practice practice practice... Exactly Yes, DM groups, some smaller, some bigger, so far... :crying:I need more friends...:crying: I already do this, almost to the point of being nosy... And yes, I agree, Situational Awareness is task loading. That post is part of why I am asking. I...

    Buoyancy control and trim

Did a snap roll or two recently. Ended up in pretty much the same place. Much easier. I think it is because it minimized my time on my back. Maybe next dive is done all on my back. And really? Only one person says it is possible to hover eyes closed?

Good way to practice task loading?

What is a good way for a new diver to practice task loading? I think doing anything "real" could freak out a DM and/or boat crew. Should I do complex math on a slate, hum greatest hits, play with a rubik's cube or what? :geek: What has anyone else done? :zen:

    How long to master buoyancy?

Oh yeah, I forgot: waves. You would definitely feel the effect of waves as you are nearing the surface at the end of the dive, even a little at your safety stop. This might cause a tiny bit of stress causing you to keep your lungs fuller or inhale quicker than normal until you got used to it...

    How long to master buoyancy?

percent salinity? well oxygenated water air due to the surf break? up-currents over reefs? ...some SWAGS :zen:

    Bail-out the diveleader?

How many of you have had to bail-out the divemaster or have had to bail out a diver who the divemaster wasn't paying attention to? How many of you have had to do either as a new-ish diver? How did you handle it back then? This should give those pursuing trust-me dives a little pause... I...

    Buoyancy control and trim

 You're on to me. I was going to ask about hovering and eyes closed while swinging a sword, but thought that would have been too obvious  I do rolls too, but when just swimming around with no gear, mostly because it is fun. Will have to try this diving. Do you do snap...

    CESA practice

Question for new divers with, say... less than 30 dives: How many of you have practiced a CESA after that one time in OW? From how deep? And to how shallow? Some folks on this board say they have done it from 100+ to the surface. How did you get over that fear of exploding lungs and...

    Buoyancy control and trim

Question for new divers with, say... less than 20 dives: How good is your buoyancy control and trim? I mean really? And I guess by extension, your weighting too. Is it second nature? Sure I can hover, and adjust my BC only once or twice during a dive, and I am relatively level, but I need...

    Howzit from Kauai

Hey Ohana, I just wanted to say hi. I have been lurking these forums for a few months now and figured I might as well sign up. Hope to go diving with some of you ...eventually after I get better. :D :zen:
