Scuba Diving...What Biodegradable Sunscreen to use?

My wife and I having been using Mexitan brand for a couple of years now and it works pretty well. It can be a little gummy at times to put on but I haven't been on the receiving end of a sunburn. I believe they call their sunscreen brand tropical sands now.

Forecast for Utila and another question

Poked through the archives and didn't see any specific info. about people's observations of weather in July. I saw several graphs etc... that showed a pretty low rainfall total which is encouraging. I'm headed down the 24th of July and right now the 15 day shows partly/mostly cloudy with...

    Closed ladder with fins on?

I've only ever climbed a tree ladder with fins on. Even those I found to be easier to handle without fins. I wouldn't even know where to begin if someone told me to climb a ladder with closed sides with fins. BTW... Aquacat has the easiest tree ladder I've ever encountered, even the last step...

My first OW certification class review.

Thanks for the narrative. I wish I had recorded more of my training in my log book or elsewhere. It's nice to see the positive side of OW training represented on here as well. Best of luck to you.

    The State of Diving

Off topic, but not necessarily, I see women wear them all of the time when their hair is long enough to get in the way if left to drift around, but too short to put back in a pony tail. Maybe dude has a luxurious mane that he needs to control.

    The State of Diving

In all fairness to Dave, he did mention in the OP that he had edited the footage so we all knew we were seeing the worst bits of footage. I don't get the impression that there is some master agenda at work here.

    The State of Diving

That was probably me on my first dive trip ever... to Cozumel. The only difference in my mind was that I knew I was bad, had cruddy bouyancy control so I stayed a nice safe distance from other divers and the reef. It's easy to write-off this behavior as typical vacation diver, but I don't...

    New location ideas

The biggest thing I noticed about the Little Cayman weight restrictions was that they weighed the big bags and any carry-ons that were suitcase like or clearly reg/photo cases. We were toting our regs and a bunch of camera gear in a couple of back-packs and they considered those "personal...

    New location ideas

I second Little Cayman & Curacao, I've been to both and wouldn't hesitate to go back. The Curacao trip was cheaper, but the resort we stayed at is out of business. As far as liveaboards go, I think the Peter Hughes boats have dropped their prices considerably. Would have to imagine that other...

    Recognizing Potential Problems

You can call a dive at any time for any reason and no good buddy should be angry with you. You might need to discuss the reasons and formulate a plan for future occurences, but they should be 100% ok with your decision. How would you all handle a similar situation with an insta-buddy? You...

    Would you buddy with me?

I suppose for me it would depend... if it takes a few minutes each way, no problem, if we're talking 30 minutes of the dive spent descending and ascending it might be a problem. Even then, if there's good viz and the dive isn't that deep I'd be willing to hang with you there, I've seen some...

    Utila or Cozumel

Well, we found even some better airfare for the Utila trip so we jumped on it. Thanks for your input. Flying Continental through Houston to get into Roatan around noon. Our leader has arranged air transport to Utila a couple of hours after that, so the travel shouldn't be too brutal. Came...

    Utila or Cozumel

I'm trying to not take the potential for whale sharks too much into the equation since we will be there end of July. However, I know our group has seen them both times in Utila. Once in September and once in July.

Best Dive Vacation with non-diving Family

What kind of non-diving stuff are you looking for? Would something like Breezes in Curacao fit the bill? You'd have access to the diving of Curacao, but they would have things like the kids club and a pretty nice beach and pool, and going to town is always an option.

    Utila or Cozumel

I've got a tough question to throw out there for everyone. My wife and I have been kicking this around for awhile now and are soliciting the advice of others. We have an opportunity to go to Utila the end of July and stay at Deep Blue or Cozumel at the tend of October and stay at Fiesta...

    Aqua Cat Trip Report

My wife and I just returned from a fantastic week aboard the Aqua Cat (4-24 to 5-1). I would reccomend this boat to anyone. Visibilty and weather for the week were not ideal, but that is completely out of anyone's control. Temps in the water were typically 73-75 degrees, decided it's time to...

100+ Dives And I Still Suck

I'm not mad at the OP, I agree with the majority of his post and think ihe has a great attitude. In fact, I didn't try to dispute his point that most cold water divers are good, because in my personal experience, they generally are. I've just had a couple of experiences with blow-hards. I...

100+ Dives And I Still Suck

"8) Vacation only warm water divers generally suck a LOT worse than I do... and that's sad." This statement is starting to annoy me a bit. I don't get the elitism of some of those that dive in cold water. Face it, sucky divers suck period, doesn't matter where they do the majority of their...

    Gender divide?

I got into Scuba because of the wife. The dive shop we travel with is owned by a male/female team and on our trips it's usually around 50/50. When we've traveled without the shop it seems like it's usually 70/30. The interesting thing is, we're usually one of the only couples. A nother...
