    Gas planning question

That's more like it. Nice answer Kev. I prefer it when people think about the why ---------- Post added February 14th, 2014 at 12:28 PM ---------- I fail to see how the standard buddy system isn't an easier alternative to carrying an independent system in a standard OW dive. Think of this...

    Gas planning question

Actually I stated my preference, not an edict :-D Sadly nothing to do with why sm is good for a reef dive. Thanks for replying. Sent from my couch using tapatalk

    Gas planning question

Actually I haven't told anyone what they should dive. I stated why BM is better for ow deco, with rationale. Try reading my posts again. I'm interested in why you recommend diving in SM in ow. Yet you keep avoiding answering the question. Sent from my couch using tapatalk

    Divetech - quick whine

Charging for a tech dive normally includes Twinset, Air fill & 50% for deco. So to be charged to fill a twinset with air is ridiculous. Do they charge Rec divers the same way? I doubt it. You rent a tank it comes with Air as standard. You want something fancy, you pay. As for the bailout. I'd...

Can I jump start my career as a PADI certified Scuba Instructor?

If you really want the quick route, then get onto an instructor-internship type program in either Utila or Koh Tao.

How long have you been diving?

Probably back to the Stone age I'd imagine ;) 12 years this year

    Gas planning question

Persuade me then. Don't just call me close minded and not present a valid argument. So far only Subcooled has bothered.

    Gas planning question

It is indeed a big world. And I've dived off some very small boats and some epic ones. You seem completely closed off to the fact that sometimes it may not be the right thing to take SM and are beyond reason.

    Gas planning question

Subcooled has given an excellent reasoning above. Personally, I still don't agree with him :D. But he took the time to explain his rationale as I have with mine, and I thank him for taking the time. It's having those two cylinders on a small RIB that IS the imposition. *sigh* :shakehead:

    The Walking Dead

A chilled episode where nothing much happened. And as usual it was compelling. Yeah they have to chuck a few zombie killings in there, and Michon is one-woman-zombie-slaughterhouse!, but overall it's character driven and the main reason I love this show.

    Gas planning question

I have yet to see a compelling argument from you otherwise. Once again. There are no dive ops in the UK that do not allow SM on their boats. However out of respect for fellow divers I leave my twinset at home when diving off of small RIBs as it is unfair to expect other divers to haul my kit...

    Gas planning question

It is neither my boat or dive site. Nor am I telling people what to do. I have an open-minded approach to dive equipment selection. I don't dive one system. You clearly feel that SM is good for you, but you do not dive it because it as appropriate for the conditions; your responses have...

    Gas planning question

Flots this has nothing to do with a certain dive op, rather the style of diving in the UK. You get hot-dropped onto most sites. For that environment a single or twin tank BM system is the logical choice due to environment, not stubborn kit preference. In UK caves SM is the trump card as they...

    Gas planning question

? No I'm referring to practices like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9wbJUm9i1Q&noredirect=1 That's great, except when you're wearing it and are wider than everyone else on the boat ;) UK dives, you don't get tanks handed to you. You jump fully kitted and return fully kitted.

Rec/jacket style bcd vs bp/w bcd for the IE?

If he's still a DM, how would he know? Fixed ;) Dear god, why would you want to look like them :D I did my I.E in a Zeagle Brigade, without hindrance. That's a good idea. While weight pockets and weight harnesses satisfy requirements, I think a weight belt demo is a good idea. However you...

    Gas planning question

It is task specific tool. Shallow reef bimbles on SM, overkill OW deco with sidemount. Too cluttered SM wreck penetration. Maybe, but I'd find a bigger wreck if the restrictions were so tight :cool2: Evaluate the dive and make the correct choice of equipment. SM has its place, but standard...

    Gas planning question

True. But you don't need to in BM. Shutdown and breathe no hassle Fair enough. I remain unconvinced on SM for anything other than task specific dives.
  19. Ste Wart

    Gas planning question

Not at all. If you shut down a tank in sidemount you have lost that tank; effectively you have just lost half your gas. If you shut down a tank in BM you still have all the remaining gas in the system. Yes on BM you may lose more into the water column, but after the shutdown you still retain...

how many dives/time from beginning techdiving till full trimix did you take?

I had a lot of dives, over a thousand by the time I had finished Full Trimix. But that statistic hides a few facts, namely I was working as an instructor and a large proportion were training or guided dives; neither deep or challenging. I went from Adv EANX to Full Mix in 3 years. I wasn't...
