All I can say is I hate drysuits!

I had actually been advised not to bother taking the course. Tarps became redundant after the advent of my beloved 4runner. I just sit on its beloved tailgate and the birds are singing and God is in his/her/whatever place. The 'sad but true' point is really the one I was trying to make...

All I can say is I hate drysuits!

Absolutely no offense taken. As a diver, I long ago realized that absolutely everything is my fault. I have no disdain for the flare. In fact, it was the only even remotely useful skill in that scenario. Tarp - absolutely. Nobody teaches that, though. And these days, I check the dump valve...

    Din fittings are great!

;) You know, I hurt myself a bit last night, and you're not making my headache go away any faster!

    Din fittings are great!

Hardly - but sorry, I can see where you might have taken it that way. The difference is that DIN isn't going away anytime soon - if ever.

Except in that case, the superior technology lost out...

All I can say is I hate drysuits!

Here's something I'd like to hear views on: My problem with all the theories about doing somersaults, flaring, venting throught the neck seal etc. is just that: they're just theories, and not very good ones at that. Once, as a fairly rank newbie, I got bitten by my drysuit in about 40 ft...

All I can say is I hate drysuits!

No, you're not. Dui would want you to send them your suit so they could remove the clodhoppers and install their neoprene socks.

    Newbie and learning..but??

Sure but don't get too involved with extra gimmicks; they're all potential sources of failure. You're in an unnatural environment and are just going to have to get used to some things.

Polar Bears attack US Nuclear Submarine

Reminds me of the Gary Larson cartoon of polar bears looking at an igloo: "Hey, I love these things! Crunchy outside, chewy middle!" I went on a trip to Churchill, MB once; we went for a walk on the beach of the Bay and the locals told us that if one of the 12' white boulders moves, retire...

    Nasty yellow smear

Although I'm always partial to any solution involving a blowtorch or a chainsaw, I might instead try to stain the smear the colour of the drysuit, perhaps with a 'permanent' marker.

    Newbie and learning..but??

I agree. Makes a lot of sense. I kind of like the sound of this LDS; they often wouldn't go to that much effort.

How frequently do you practice basic skills?

In a way, yes it does. The regulars on this board tend to be serious divers. The dilletantes are all over at alt.binaries.multimedia.fetish.hampsters.bondage...

All I can say is I hate drysuits!

I find myself compelled to point out, yet again, that rock boots solve all of those problems - as well as some others.

Back to the retailer with it. Tell them to give you a new one, and while they're at it, they can shut up.

For normal rec diving, some skepticism is in order.

I use dogs in particular as a gauge - if a dog doesn't like a particular person, I tend to keep my distance as well.

All I can say is I hate drysuits!

I think that could be a sign of trouble - you want perfect horizontal trim, just like any other type of diving. Maybe you need gators, or something?

    2nd stage size??

I don't think the smaller size makes them more fragile; I would expect the opposite. I dove a horrendously finnicky Micra for many years and ultimately wore it out. What I found moving to something more normal (Zeagle) was that it was much smoother and I expect this is often the case. (I.E...

All I can say is I hate drysuits!

AFAIC almost every 'darn drysuit boot' question has the same answer: DUI rock boots. They'll even install the requisite neo socks on your existing drysuit if you want to go that route. They're perfect: they don't inflate and they're smaller. One of those things that just makes more sense than...
