Your opinion on configuring a pony

Side sling so the 1st can be reached and the whole thing could be cut off if necessary. Then - I absolutely never wear it except for those DM moments when you have to go and tie off a float or something w/o a buddy. At the very least, it makes students think twice about diving solo.

    Table 4 is no fun

Good move, I think. Very glad to hear about the quick recovery.

How many dives do you do on a dive day?

On a liveaboard in warm water I could normally get 5 in but that seem like pushing it to me, so I usually do 4, or 3 if I don't feel like doing the night dive. (Hey, it's supposed to be a holiday.) In unforgivingly cold water (anything < 50 degrees) two is usually the sanest number, unless...

    Table 4 is no fun

I'm quite sure I speak for the whole board when I offer your family best wishes, and speedy recovery to your wife. Your son suffered no symptoms? Was his profile identical to your wife's? Anything odd about the profile? Do they know their approximate ascent rate? Were they wearing computers?

    Knife on leg or bc?

I never got myself a good one until I figured out how to stow it properly. That was about 200 dives ago and I haven't lost it since. (BTW that's one of the things I must thank the DIR guys for.)

    Log out issues

Usually from the link in the Email. In any case, I can solve the problem, for the most part, by simply never logging out. So if you start getting postings from doole that appear to have been composed by a drug-addicted fourteen-year-old megalomaniacal geek, you'll know I've been hacked. <g>

    Hi from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

At the bottom of Westhawk Lake it is - and always was - 34 degrees. And it's still a good place to dive.

    Another myth debunked...

My brother-in-law had a cow ("Skinny Minny") who used to wander out onto the frozen marsh in mid-winter, for some reason. He used to just throw a chain around her neck, hook her up to the tractor, and tow her back. In spite of a rapidly-moving flurry of hooves behind the tractor throughout...

    searching for advice on galapagos

FWIW when I did the Aggressor, we dove in the mornings and hiked in the afternoons. I loved it.

    strange octopus behaviour

I approached one once and it immediately turned white and started doing push-ups. We decided that discretion would be the better part of valour.

    strange octopus behaviour

I actually never thought so. They taste like pencil erasers, to me.

    strange octopus behaviour

I might urge folks not to feed fish with dog food. Do you feed your dog fish food? Seriously, food made from land mammals will often cause liver damage in marine animals. They're just not built to digest it.

    strange octopus behaviour

I saw that, too. The thing that struck me about it was the fact that the octopus had a few arms around the bottle and a few others around the cork, and he was visibly twisting the cork out. Smart. The tale about the octopus changing tanks to steal lobsters is true, BTW. It was observed by an...

    Dry Suit for Galapagos Islands?

I'd have expired from heat exhaustion in a drysuit. 7 mil attached hood. In my experience (time of year was June, I think) the water was mostly 80-ish except for the occasional blisteringly cold underwater stream that would curl your ears and last for 5 minutes or so, but that didn't happen...

    Need advice on new equipment

Sounds like the folks have got you covered, but one more thing: do NOT select the reg by price. Get the best quality you can afford in that department. There actually aren't all that many good ones. Especially look for sturdiness, serviceability, reliability and ease of breathing at depth. As...
