USA 3000 Airlines and scuba gear

I travelled with them in October/November. They re-wrote the luggage policy AFTER I booked with them. The allowances for a "scheduled" flight was different than charter / package deal flights. Then you were allowed 2 bags totalling 50 pounds, not 50 pounds each. In other words, an average of...

    cenotes

Where you stay depends mostly on what your highest trip priorities are. From your post it seems that ceote diving is pretty high on your list. You also did not mention how long you will be staying nor if you are travelling with other divers or non-divers. With all of that in mind, I would...

    swim trunks...

I usually dive a BARE 3/2 Velocity Full suit. Underneath I use both a shirt & shorts from DivegearUSA. The shorts are like a pair of bike shorts except at the bottom of they have a rubberized band of stitches that keep them from sliding up. Sort of like the rubber grippers that you see on...

    PLY PT-015 O rings

I have ordered MANY items from B&H over the past 15 years and can say I have never had a probelm with them.

    Insurance

Same here. I have DAN's equipment insurance. Fortunately I have not had any claims. I can tell you the customer service is pretty good and if I did have to file a claim, I do not expect a dragging of the feet or runaround that insurance companies are known for. I get a good "vibe" from them...

    O-ring grease

I don't know if it is the cause of it stretching or not but I do remember warnings of using only grease specifically designed for the PT-015. For the few dollar difference from ordinary grease to their special grease I wouldn't take the chance.

    Diving in Cancun?

Depending upon your budget and schedule there are a few options: A cenote dive is awesome. The one I prefer is Dos Ojos - www.hiddenworlds.com.mx If you get there on your own, the dive is only about $50 but if you travel there on a dive ops van service and they make arrangements for you it...

    Need help from C5050/PT-015 users

I had to laugh the first time I read the manual on cleaning and greasing the orings. First you use the guitar pick looking thing to remove the orings. Then you clean them. Then make sure the tracks they sit in are free of dirt, sand, grit, hair, etc. Inspect the orings for disfigurement...

    Cavern & Intro Cave?

I am not sure about other agencies specs, but PADI cavern specialty is a 2 day / 4 dive course where you visit multiple cenotes and go over specialized cavern equipment and techniques. Also, one of the local dive shops (I think SSI) has a Yucatan Cenote Specialty which is a 2 dive intro course...

    dive quest epcot

Know 3 people who did it in the past 6 months and will definitely do it again. They have 2 time options. Do the earlier as after the dive you are permitted into Epcot for the rest of the night free. This way you have some time to wander. Also, despite what the reservation agents tell you...

    calling home from cozumel

As previously recomended a Mexican calling card is the way to go. The biggest mistake people make is that when they use an AT&T or similar calling card from the USA they assume that's the only cost they encounter. Yes the cost of the call is put on that card but what is not mentioned is the...

    Batteries

We bought the c5050 and the PT015 and used it extensively during our trip to Mexico last month. Originally I had planned on using the Gold Peak 1800mAh NIMH AA batteries which I was using in my Olympus E-10 but at the last minute decided to splurge and buy 48 of the Lenmar 2300mAh NIMH...

    Akumal in April/May....

We go to Mexico 2-3 times each year. Usually (and not because of the holidays) we are there for Cinco de Mayo week, Halloween week and a straggler week in the summer here and there. The nice thing about late April / early May is the lack of crowds. That means shorter lines, better prices...

Cenotes - good or bad idea?

This post pretty much backs up a lot of what daylight said. I cannot speak for the other cenote tours but I can tell you that Hidden Worlds runs a very safe and professional operation. We dive them several times a year. They never rush you, always keep an eye on you and even for repeat...

    Mexican Customs Declaration

The only problems I ever encounter with gear is usually in the US with inspectors who want to open my carry on and check out my regulators. That only takes a minute or two and not usually a hassle. I have never had a problem entering Mexico with gear. They know you are there to enjoy the...

    Cenotes and Suits

We go to Mexico 2-3 times each year. And every trip we dive the cenotes at least 2x. Usually Dos Ojos. The water EVERY time is 75 degrees F. I dive a 3/2 full and I am fine. My buddy uses a 3/2 shortie and is fine. There are snorkellers there in the same water with just swim trunks on. So...

    Wich school on Cozumel?

What month are you planning the trip for? I have a friend who is in the process of expanding into a second shop location on Cozumel and could work out a great deal for you but won't be up and running for another couple weeks eyt.

    Bringing Back Liquor

I got a good one for ya. We have a friend that is a manager of the hotel we stay at. Every trip we find a chilled bottle waiting for us on arrival in our room. The last time we visited we actually had 2 bottles (1 for each room). We drank one and thought we would bring the other home. After...
