    Where to go?

You'd probably need AOW but don't forget the Oriskany off of Pensacola. WAR EAGLE!!!!

Can you "borrow" the crewpack for PADI OW?

Yes, I've got a mental list of things I want to review. A lot of it is what all the alphabet soup stands for. There's always a new language for a new hobby.;)

Can you "borrow" the crewpack for PADI OW?

Just took the class recently and we didn't do this. We took a quiz after each section in class that had a lot of the same questions and that was turned in. However, my book is full of underlining and notes that might not make sense to someone else. The crew pack was included in the base price...

First time in 7mm suit - hypothermia must be better!

I tried on the 7mm suit at the shop last night for dives this weekend. Very awkward getting it on (and off) and even the XL felt short on me (6'2") but any larger would have slopped elsewhere. I may be dumping cold water down it rather than hot if we don't get in the water fast after getting...

    Offsite rentals

Thanks for all the info. Trying different gear is a good idea for the future but this is our first trip after certification. Changing gear everyday would add something unfamiliar unnecessarily. This trip is about having fun and getting comfortable in the water.

    OW cert exam tomorrow

I thought the hardest part of the Padi test was the hand signals. One I didn't recognize right off but there was only 1 answer that made sense. The test seemed to be just another way to reinforce the basic concepts.

Yes, Key Largo. I forget there is another Largo.

    Offsite rentals

My daughter does not yet have a BCD and reg. We'll be diving several locations in the keys and we'd both prefer if she had the same equipment for the week. Is there a shop around Largo that we could pick it up on the way down and return on the way up?

    shark finning again...

Is it greed or is it just that the commercial fishers represent jobs in a poor country? You have to offer these people another way to make a living. Maybe ecotourism? You also have to convince about a quarter of the world's population that a traditional food is inappropriate.

"The Wetter The Better" save lionfish from death

Some interesting Lionfish facts from the Shedd Aquarium Male lionfish are territorial, which means they stick close to a specific area where they always live and mate. Even the females live in specific areas on the reef. One male defends a territory where a few females also live... At dusk, the...

    Interesting order experience with Scuba.com

I ordered a couple of masks from them. No problem doing it on a Mac. One mask fit my daughter fine but mine had huge gaps on my lower face (supposed to fit most faces). I returned it as as non fitting and was promptly credited for the purchase amount. I was pleased and would do business with...

    Dive shop versus online

I'm far from expert but for me at least a mask almost has to be bought in a store. I tried on around 20 before I finally found one that fit. I suppose I could have then gone and found the same mask online but it would only have been a few dollars cheaper and shipping would have eaten most of it...

Divers Should Be Able To Dive Vandenberg SATURDAY!

It seemed like it would be cool to see it as a "new" wreck and watch how it changes over the years. We'll still do it but probably on our next dive trip rather than this one when we have some more experience and training. I expect we'll get to the Keys 2 or 3 times a year. I'm a little...

Divers Should Be Able To Dive Vandenberg SATURDAY!

That agrees with the impression I got from the other reports here. It sounds like a great dive but I'm crossing it off our list for this trip.

"The Wetter The Better" save lionfish from death

I haven't used the math in 25 years so it would take me awhile to prove it, but I have a MS in population biology (no work there so I shifted to molecular biology). There are straightforward equations into which you can plug variables like reproductive rate and predation rate to determine...

"The Wetter The Better" save lionfish from death

Hardly a tree hugger. I just see both of your suggested solutions as risky activities that do nothing to solve the problem. If every diver took a Lion Fish on every dive, they still wouldn't put a serious dent in the population.

Divers Should Be Able To Dive Vandenberg SATURDAY!

I'm looking for some advice from you experienced divers who know the conditions on the Vandy. My daughter and I are just completing our OW and will be taking our first dive trip to the Keys later this month. We've planned to keep this a simple fun trip to get comfortable in the water and work on...

"The Wetter The Better" save lionfish from death

If killing a fish makes you feel better, do it. Just don't be a hazard to yourself or others. Sooner or later, there's going to be some serious injuries from these well intentioned but futile efforts. It was too late to stop when the first clutch hatched from the first breeding pair. Drug...

Divers Should Be Able To Dive Vandenberg SATURDAY!

From what I've read, you're both right. The dishes were welded in place and cabled or chained to the deck. They broke free of the welds during the sinking. You can see them come off in one of the ariel shots. They apparently remained attached to the cables and are reported to be on the deck.

    Camping in the Keys

Thanks for the suggestions. We're experienced campers and can deal with the bugs and the heat. Summer in Florida actually tends to be a little cooler and less humid, especially near the ocean, than most of the rest of the southeast. I got 3 days at Long Key SP and I'm going to try Big Pine...
