OMG! 403 lb Warsaw Speared in Gulf of Mexico!!!

They use Spearfishing Specialties' Rhino Commercial guns with a single 5/8" band and 60" freeshafts. The aim is to stone the fish when freeshafting. The shaft will be more accurate and have a longer range when not encumbered by a shooting line. It usually works better on reefs than it does in...

OMG! 403 lb Warsaw Speared in Gulf of Mexico!!!

The fish was shot with a 60" freeshaft powered by a single band. He put a second shaft into the fish and it was about finished. He ph'd it just in case but it was not necessary, it only ensured his safety being at 425'. That is the fish of a lifetime taken by someone who has paid his dues in...

    Zeagle Regs

I switched to a FH6 a while back and cannot be happier! That thing breathes better than I thought a reg. could. The Zeagle had some of the best #'s and features of all the regs. I researched. Price was not a consideration when I bought it. The single biggest reason that I am switching over...

    fins for warm-water diving

I normally swim when in the ocean instead of walk so I can forgo the booties and use my kick***** full foot fins.

OMS Harness vs Dive Rite Harness

Those pads really are excessive and I'm a fairly large guy. The harness is much more comfortable without the pads, even on land. The one piece harness is comfortable also but I like the adjustability of the OMS due to the fact that I dive in so many diff. temp. waters with widely varying...

    Triggerfish Attack Head Count

When putting one on a stringer it is IMPERATIVE to string through the mouth and out the gill plate. If strung in normal fashion through the eye sockets they WILL tear dime size chunks of flesh and neoprene from you.

OMS Harness vs Dive Rite Harness

If you get the OMS ditch the pads in the beginning. They are far too bulky and don't improve the harness one bit IMO. I dove them for one dive then they went in the trash. The harness itself is good though after I trimmed all excess webbing off.

Another viable thread met with holier-than-thou negativity.

    SCBA to SCUBA yoke adapter?

Most scba fill stations worthy of using will filter the air to the same or greater level of purity as a scuba fill station. I have verified this with my own and several other departments I know of. I can't see why it would be OK to breath bad air on scba and not on scuba. If anything I am far...

    Glove advice

For warm water go to Home Depot and get some of those knit gloves with the blue latex coating. They rule at 3.00 a pair. Wal-Mart has them even cheaper.

    Lake Allatoona diving?

Up near the dam during the late summer with no rain and during the week there will be up to 10' of viz especially if you get down deep. Right now you'd be lucky to see your gauges in front of your mask.

Pony Bottle Mounting & Scubapro Tank Bands

Zeagle Pony bands are the simplest and best hands down and fairly inexpensive and 19 is ok if that's what you want.

    Fun safety stop

So I see a thread entitled "fun safety stop" and clicked on it thinking it might be something good to read and a little different. Instead, it goes downhill just like EVERY other thread on this board with knowitalls, naysayers, and doomsday prophets. Not every dive ends in death or catastrophe...

    New under water hunter.....

Fast97, some good advice has been given here. I second going to Spearboard.com for info on spearfishing. Take any advice lightly from posters here that condemn your spearfishing style. NEVER give up your catch to a predator without a fight. They will come back for more just like feeding...

The Tusa's were pretty good from what I remember but I thought the Mares Quattro's were much better.

Full Foot Fins VS. Open heel

I can wear the Avantitres with or without socks. The others I like to wear socks with just to make the fit that much better and keep them from chafing.

Full Foot Fins VS. Open heel

I wear full foot fins exclusively even though I own a few pairs of open heel fins. I have Mares Quattros, Avantitres, and Cressi-sub Gara 300 freediving fins. I wear either 3 or 5 mil neoprene socks with all unless divng in warm water on vacation. The power transfer is so much better with the...

    Eating, drinking and diving

This is what real divers do. These hardy souls will not be seen in Rodales or History channel. If neoprene is worn by them it is patched with duct tape. Start out at Waffle House with 3 eggs over hard, bacon, grits, toast, hashbrowns all the way covered in ketchup, pepper, and mayo. Coffee...
