Oceanic Atom Computer with Sherwood Amphos Transmitter?

Looking to get a second transmitter for my Oceanic Atom. Looking at the Amphos, it appears to be the same manufacturer as the Atom and same for transmitters. I could get a better deal in a Sherwoid transmitter. Any thoughts on whether it would work with the Atom?

Massive starfish die-off in Pacific Ocean linked to mystery virus

Must still be radiation from Fukushima. Those other non-scientists can't be wrong. /sarcasm off

New to Nitrox - Do I need to buy an O2 Analyzer?

I've always been able to analyze my tanks either in the shop where they were filled or at the resort of on the boat. My opinion is you don't need your own analyzer. You can use the supplier's analyzer to analyze your own tanks.

    Deck Lights for Night Diving?

Red light to reduce night vision loss works for me. However, that was when I needed night vision. For night dives my dive light is white and with many other divers having bright white LEDs, night vision goes to crap anyway. The white deck light suggestions are spot on, IMHO. The biggest loss of...

    Experience as a trainee divemaster

Each shop and instructor is different. My shop has the students assemble and transport the gear themselves. (We don't have an onsite pool.) I help ensure the instructor has a tank, get the O2, extra weights, and help the students get their gear together. The instructors I work with May not say...

Quality Control of Deco Planning Software?

I'm an engineer at a nuclear plant so we think about these things. What quality control procedures have you seen in some of the deco planning software on the market? Are there standard test problems for the different algorithms that we can test the software fidelity? I'm not questioning any...

    SSI Specialty courses

SSI standards are online at their website. (Check the downloads tab.) though The specific requirements for each specialty may not be in there (just the big certs like OW, AOW, S&R, etc. Also, the number of dives could be higher than the standard based on what the shop wants to provide. It may...

    Lake Jocassee update

No change lake level (maybe a foot shallower.) but temperature is 71 deg down to 35 ft.

    Diving Lake Marion, SC

I'd recommend Lake Jocassee or Keowee in the northwest corner of SC. The vid is reasonable and there are plenty of divers. Devils Fork State Park at Jocassee has a boat ramp dedicated for non-motorized craft that divers use every weekend. The end of the ramp can be at 15 ft with a platform about...

    Science of Diving

The first one is the most relevant but does not provide practice questions for the math problems. The second is just plain crap for SoD. I've been thinking of putting together some practice problems that could be seen on the SoD but haven't gotten around to it yet.

    TDI Standards?

Are the TDI training standards available to the public? I looked on the site (and searched here) unsuccessfully. But then it took me a while to find the SSI standards, too, but finally did. Thanks, Carl

Still Finding New Ways to Screw Up

Actually, it seems that this is exactly what the pony is for and even being heavy and using the pony without assist from the BC, following up the anchor line would have addressed the heavy part (or perhaps a breath into the BC to aid in ascent ... the Air 2 oral inflation still works.) It...

    40th birthday recommendations

Consider Roatan for the dive trip. My wife and I like Bananarama on Wedt Bay beach. Who are you diving with on the cruise? The cruise will be a great way to see if you like the place.

    Advanced Technology

Algorithms for inert gas uptake / discharge will be needed but the accuracy can be improved immensely by any actual, real time measurements. This is exactly like navigating when flying to the moon. You make predictions based on known physics and make adjustments on the way based on real time...

    Metronics Morphine Pump

I don't have direct knowledge ... just an engineer. But one reason for the same limitations is that they both may have been tested successfully in hyperbaric trials to 2ATA and not higher (or actually higher but 2 ATA is the conservative result of the testing.) I suspect they tested to this...

    Lake Jocassee update

Did the night dive with Upstate Scuba last Saturday, 9/13. Excellent dives. A couple big carp that were too lazy to swim away. Dive buddy hovered just petting one for about half a minute. Also, a number of small catfish south and east of the Junk in the flat, muddy area. They were pretty active...

    Remember the Dive Guard posting?

This is NOT what was said. 40 seconds and an audible and visual alarm. And there is an override. Only later does it inflate the BC. However, it's still not necessarily something I'll get and agree that malfunctions that shoot one to the surface won't be fun. Though, one could probably dump air...

    Cheap entry level wrist computer

I recommend the Mares Puck. I think the only downside was that the USB cord was extra. It also has nitrox capability (not on your list but was on mine.)

Nuubie indecision is killing me - coco, banana, west village, infinity.. argh

I like West Bay. You can still use Bananarama dive op. I've really enjoyed diving with them. You can actually shore dive from in front of Infinity Bay (Mandy's Eel Garden) ... south side of the pier. It's a nice, easy shore dive and I've done a night dive there, too. Have fun! Carl

    Article: Air integrated dive computers

AI computer - have it, use it, like it. Reliability is just fine. Intermittent loss of signal can be annoying but not a safety issue. (I also dive with an SPG and a depth guage console anyway.) All the negatives I've seen above are not safety issues they are economic issues (if it doesn't work...
