I don't know this computer specifically but a 3 m stop is not unusual from my experience. However, I am more comfortable with 6 m stops so on my computer I have adjusted the shallowest depth for deco to be 6 m. My computer has an adjustable setting for this.
A review of the Matrix computer...
Weight belt under the harness is to ensure a failure of the weight belt does not result in an uncontrolled ascent. Very important if you have a deco obligation. Not a configuration I'd recommend for a recreational dive. I could get the weight belt off from underneath my harness but it takes some...
It would be interesting to get the real story. The perforated ear-drum makes sense from an uncontrolled (or inadequately controlled) descent.
What doesn't make sense is what sounds to be the skin bends and/or neurological DCS hit. I have only had a relatively narrow view of how OW training is...
It's the shop (or the instructor if its an independent instructor.)
You have to evaluate what you're getting for the $$$. Ask the question about classroom time, pool time and dives that are or are not included in any certification. Then compare that across the shops. If one shop charges $100...
Exam is not online. The book work is online but what level of classroom review is up to your instructor.

Look at the SSI standards not the other agencies since this is an SSI forum. They have an intermediate certification on...
The Scuba Diver cert included Sections 1-3 of the Open Water Diver curricula. So sections 4-6 and the Appendix will need to be completed (online / classroom) and OWD exam.
Also, the Scuba Diver cert included the snorkel dive and two Open Water training dives. Another two Open Water training...
Tragedy of the Commons refutes this theory that fewer fish will be pulled if the price is higher. The only way this occurs is with local laws and enforcement. Otherwise, they'll get what they can while they can. Not a knock on locals in any locale, just human nature.
Oh, and Drew knows my view...
+1 for the Oceanic Atom. Never had a problem with the WAI.
I also have a Predator for those tech dives. But the SEABEAR H3 is cool, can be one of those computers you don't take off, and the thing I've seen most touted by those who got it is the ability to personalize the main screen with an...
Guy - I'd recommend calling DAN or checking their website for any information related to your condition and diving.
Having said that, not offering medical advice, but with a low platelet count, you're susceptible to excessive bleeding and the changing pressures could cause internal bleeding (I...
I'm in Seneca (outside Clemson), TDI AN/DP and Intro Cave. A fellow OW instructor from our shop is down in Anderson. We did Intro Cave together. I'm looking to get more tech diving experience but need to get additional equipment (and a drysuit if I'm going to do those dives in Jocassee!)
It's not for the agency I teach for but I was researching some additional techniques for Stress & Rescue and stumbled upon SNSI and their Rescue Diver videos show and reiterate doing skills neutrally buoyant (not necessarily in horizontal trim and without some arm motion ... but clearly...
At the local lake, I've used two ziplock baggies to store my BMW key fob and put it in my shorts pocket under my wetsuit while diving. The outer ziplock may have had a drop or two of water but the inner bag was dry as a bone.
And no worries about holding pressure since the bags just compress...
Several folks have said Nitrox increases bottom time and reduces nitrogen loading. Actually it does either or, not both. If you're at the NDL on Nitrox you have the same amount of nitrogen in your system as when you're at the NDL on air. One can increase bottom time or increase conservatism to...
I dove for four years while my wife stayed on the beach as she didn't want to dive. Then she started snorkeling and once she got her hands on a camera, that was all it took. She got certified last year and has 130+ dives so far. Also, I have helped certify a family with two kids, one being Jr...
Flying after diving - wait 18-24 hrs after last dive to fly.
Diving after flying - generally not an issue but dehydration and fatigue could be higher than normal so don't push the limits.
But this is generic answer to generic question. The devil is always in the details.
Airborne - I'm a certified Classified Diver Buddy (SSI) and observed one paraplegic diver and one with MS this past week with Dive Pirates on Cayman Brac. The paraplegic had ankle weights to keep his feet from being too floaty. But based on my observation, they were likely a bit too heavy as he...
