    Cressi and Mares inflators

My wife's Cressi air travel BC has done well for over three hundred dives. No problems with the inflator. Just a data point.

Craptacular dives on a beautiful day

I've been at that quarry and have had some squirrely readings on my compass. I suspect there is a magnetic anomaly in the surrounding rock that throws it off (unless you've done this navigation successfully several times before.) It's a great site and I've enjoyed it!

    Sidemount from Rec Boats

For the recreational dives, I simply chose to use a recreational length alternate and not to put the long hose on the LH reg. Just passing along what worked for me and what didn't. I may try that next time.

    Katana dual bladder?

Can a second (redundant) bladder be added to the Katana?

    Sidemount from Rec Boats

Did two weeks of single SM on a boat in Bonaire and one in Aruba. Generally easy enough. I re-rigged my LH reg set with an alternate but the hose really wasn't long enough. I did keep the alternate on a bungee around my neck vs routing the hose to the chest and maintaining the alternate in...

seeing as it seems to be hard to find vids of single tank sm.......

Doing single-tank SM on my Bonaire/Aruba trip now. First two dives today, normal weighting and did not have trim problems. I did steal an alternate from my recreational set instead of moving the long hose from the right. Kept the bungie I keep on my alternate and removed the bungie from my...

    Aruba Review

This past January temperatures were 78/79F. And I've not found Nitrox on Aruba nor a tech community which usually would at least bring partial pressure blending. I gather the view is that there is not much call for it. Also, it seems that diving is not the primary recreational travel activity...

90 degree elbow on second stage

The calculator provided is for incompressible fluid flow and not applicable to compressible flow (air.) However, the overall concepts are correct (more fittings, more turning, more length, the higher the pressure drop.) And I believe tbone is correct in that the overall pressure drop...

    Subtle signs of stress

Subtle signs of stress are just that, signs of stress. But not necessarily impending panic. For more experienced divers, I might pay attention and continue to monitor but experienced divers typically know how to manage small stressors. And one can always watch for the reaction to the stress. In...

    Different instructor’s name on card

D'oh!!:facepalm:That's what I thought but when I did a quick skim of the PDF bookmarks of the Standards file, I missed it! It's there. I've fixed my post but it will live on in infamy in the quoted replies.

    Interesting class to attend

It doesn't have to be in the pool. And hopefully the first dive on the course was not to 130 ft (which is what I thought I saw at the start of the video. I've done assessments during equipment assembly, gear up, and swim out/descent to 60 ft. before doing any skills. I've adjusted the dive...

    So, this just happened

Something missing from the observation ... the diver never responds to the leader. And she is not looking around or appears aware of anyone else. So clues are there from the start. I use this video for my Stress & Rescue class not just to show what active panic looks like but also the passive...

    Different instructor’s name on card

SSI has a DM Instructor and a Master Instructor rating.

    Sarcoidosis

Check your local dive shops. Both SSI and PADI have freediving certification programs and with your 6 m limit that would be the Basic Freediving (SSI). Looks like you're located just south of Orlando and there is an SSI shop north of you (Castaway Scuba Adventures). Hope this helps!

Death in Cocos from shark attack

Not "at the surface" from what I have seen in discussions but at/near the safety stop.

    Donating the "primary" regulator

One doesn't necessarily need to remove an Air2 (or other inflator-attached alternates) in order to adjust the BC. First, it will inflate fine with it in your mouth. Second, you can use the shoulder dump (or two) to let air out. And other inflator-attached alternates are not like the Air2, it's...

    Anxiety for no reason?

Relating my own experience (which may or may not be directly applicable) ... I find that I get anxious when I am rushing to get ready, get in the water, etc. If I descend in that condition my breathing rate is excessive and my anxiety level is elevated. This is exacerbated when at a new site or...
