    Trim "obsession" and Training

Trim is a tool. The problem is that people don't have the tool (i.e. don't know how to get into trim), or don't know when and how to use the tool. It isn't something to obsess about, but it is certainly something to work towards.

Gas choice for 100' deco dives

100% O2. That being said, you can always run the profiles on Deco Planner to check of you uncomfortable or want to double the profiles, but Richard's provided a nice methodology. Ultimately, you have to evaluate how your own body personally tolerates whatever deco methodology you choose to do.

    Finished my DM!

I don't believe that I know a person who has worked harder than you to achieve your levels of proficiency in diving. You've always opened yourself up and shared your own flaws and struggles in ways which most people would not due to their own self-inflated ego (esp., tech divers and dive...

What is your biggest Fear in diving?

We're expecting our first kid in a couple of months. I echo the comments about fear of not being able to dive. We'll see how it goes... The other fear is of taking an undeserved hit and getting bent. So far, so good, knock on wood, but you never know which dive profile will be the one that...

    Certify

If diving water that cold, I wear a 7mm wetsuit along with a 5mm hooded vest. 50*F water is cold in a wetsuit particularly if you are doing multiple dives in a single day. Good luck!

How would you advise new divers to find quality ConEd classes?

It's also possible that the 20 year instructor has gotten sloppy or antiquated in his methodologies; and the new instructor is hungrier, willing to spend more time, and trained better to instruct. If you do it sloppy for 20 years, it just gets reinforced sloppy for 20 years. Of course, I would...

    The cost of excellence

If you are concerned with taking Fundamentals, GUE also offers a Primer class which can help get your ready to take the course. I would speak to your potential Fundamentals instructor about this option, and they can discuss with you whether it would or would not be appropriate to first take a...

    Getting in TRIM

Yeah, I agree. Bob Sherwood is the ultimate trim doctor. That guy eyeballed and diagnosed issues I would have before I even stepped into the water. It was pretty incredible. His vast experience and passion as an instructor really shines through if you are ever fortunate enough to train with...

    Rescue or GUE Fundies Class

I would ask around and find the best instructor in your area. My rescue class was part of a much larger 14-week advanced diver program by LA County. What I liked about it was that it was more geared specifically towards the local diving I would do in southern California both on beach and on...

    Bottom Timer/Wrist Computer Question

Are you saying that you know GUE T1 divers who were not taught ratio deco?:dontknow: Now whether people want to use it after being taught it is a personal choice. Each person has to make their own personal decisions in how they want to dive and take personal responsibility for their diving...

    deco for divers

Yeah, based upon a friend's recommendation I bought and read the book. I thought it did a great job of explaining everything including some of the various model currently out there. I very much enjoyed the book as a one-stop general overview on the subject.

    Horizontal Obsession

Horizontal trim is just a tool, albeit a valuable one. However, I think that the problem is that people can't get into horizontal trim when they need to be. Even worse, they just don't know what it feels like and think they are horizontal when in fact they are not. Thus, they are diving...

Do you have to be GUE trained to be "DIR" ??

I wouldn't get caught up with the whole DIR label. I'd just try to find the best dive instruction and system that works for me. That being said, I've been very happy with the GUE training I have undertaken and would highly recommend them. I don't use the DIR label for myself because I'm not...

Need some advice about transitioning to tech.

Even with electronic membership, I think that you have access to videos under the "Membership Benefits" section once you've logged in. I'm just not sure what videos you may or may not have access to.
