Problems with LDS. Need advice. (LONG READ)

It seems you've stated your case pretty well here. I'd print out your post and hand it to the shop owner and ask him what he'd do if he were you.... On the other hand, if you have other options, I'd salvage what I could with the current LDS and run like hell.

Diver Panic @ 135 ft. Rapid Ascent

Didn't mean to give the impression I considered the 5' deviation to be insignificant. Based on the info available, 100' would have been too deep. From what was posted, I haven't read anything I'd consider as good judgment. If all is as has been represented, this guy should not be instructing.

Diver Panic @ 135 ft. Rapid Ascent

SSI standards hold a max depth of 130' for specialty training, so yeah.... there was a violation of 5'. For the OP: Exactly how many people were checking out on this dive? How many instructors or assistants were on the dive? What was the visibility like(Could the entire group see each other at...

How many attempts are allowed for PADI DM Written Test?

So.... Why would a shop take a guys money when it should be obvious the student doesn't have the aptitude to succeed in the training? I could be wrong, but the OP likely went through all his training with the same shop, maybe the same instructor. They should have an excellent idea of where the...

How many attempts are allowed for PADI DM Written Test?

I'm sure the shop wouldn't have you sign up for the course if you weren't absolutely ready. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be just fine. :)

Sealife DC500 housing and WA lense

Housing was flooded in fresh in a saline pool due to operator error.... I closed the lanyard that I used to connect the wide angle lense to the housing in the housing and flooded. The housing's integrity has not been compromised, just don't do the same thing I did. Includes: Housing Wide...

    Ssi vs padi certification

As a DC, I got to see a lot of "goof off" time and came to question its value. Aside from intro and assessment, students were pretty much left to do whatever they wanted and that typically consisted of standing around on the bottom, doing somersaults, tossing pool toys back and forth or the...

    Neutral Buoyancy

At the start of the dive, you will have greater buoyancy as a result of trapped air and fully expanded neoprene in your wetsuit. You'll also be carrying more ballast in the form of compressed gas in your cylinder. If you are properly weighted, there is a good chance you will have to completely...

    My dryglove stink! Literally!

Get a glove dryer or you'll be washing them every few dives and they still won't be as fresh smelling as using the dryer. Turning them inside out doesn't cut it, as you've discovered, a glove dryer will. I've used Woolite to wash them, but I don't have latex in my gloves.

    Shock to the system

Try this: before you submerge, take your mask off and plant your face in the water. Take at least five deep breaths through your reg or snorkel, then start yor dive. Once you pass the thermocline, flood your mask completely and breathe through the discomfort before clearing. You might need to...

    My dryglove stink! Literally!

Whatever you use, buy or build a glove dryer and use it. I used $12 of PVC parts and a $5 yard sale hair dryer for mine and haven't had an issue since.

How do you manage your non-diving spouse / significant other?

Generally speaking, wedding rings and pacifiers will fuxor your trim faster than anything.

Dive Training Magazine article on.... Dive training

Crap, I need to work on my communcations skills. I'd dive with or help just about anyone, but I can't really influence anyone, other than my students. Thousands begin and quit diving every year, I'm sure. I'm just looking to motivate those I've instructed, cuz that's about the only chance I...

Dive Training Magazine article on.... Dive training

Personally, I'm only interested in seeing the divers I have trained continue their diving. The rest of you can stop any time.:D I just need to figure out exactly why they give it up, so I can counter that trend or at the least, provide them with every possible tool at my disposal. If it's...

    Sling a 72

In terms of having a redundant gas supply, it would make sense diving a single. Breathing down a stage when you have redundancy in isolated doubles is one thing, but the slung bottle would be the only source of redudancy diving a single.

Dive Training Magazine article on.... Dive training

I ran into this article by Alex Brylske as I was clearing out the magazine rack in my reading room. Dive Training Editorials: THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT While I don't agree with his conclusion, I appreciated the article and in particular, this bit: Unfortunately, I don't believe doubling the...
