    Diving with Mike Nelson

I was encouraged to do it on small boats with no bench, no picnic table no pick up bed. It was the 70's so no octo or bc. I'll still do it on a small private boat, but on charters I'll shimmy in on the bench or with help on the gunwales. Some folks get their pantyhose in a bunch.

    Review: DRIS 28lb BP/W System

Gotta remember when you're switching to a bpw, there's a lot of inherent buoyancy associated with conventional bc's. Even your old DiveRite rig. So that as another 1 to 5 pounds to factor into your calcs. Best to do a proper weight check. The STA in the pic is maybe 1/2 pound.

    Modifying my Jet Fins

Good points. Agree completely. those very precise maneuvers perform so much better when the fin is worked by the front of the foot. I think I'll back out of this room quietly and have a Tito's before bed. Lol

    Pony tank?

I have a 13. It can take me from ~90 ft to the surface with a 30 ft per minute ascent, mid water stop and safety stop. For those who say, "but if the diver is stressed'...I'll blow off the stops and ascend faster. I did do so for over 10 years. The weight, buoyancy and size of a 13 aluminum is...

Huh??? I do mind because you are not being clear in your reply. If I was what guy? The OP? You were not addressing the "Guy", you were addressing me. That's all...never mind.

    Modifying my Jet Fins

Yeah. One of the pros I've heard about Jets is the ability to carry water. Screw that. I've a had a couple pair. Making weep holes is worth it for easier doffing. I've done so. Jets are '60's technology for crying out loud. Not saying they are not great fins for some applications or for certain...

I agree completely with John. Scarey stuff GS. But you've done everything by the numbers.

I guess you lost track. I was replying to your post #60 in which you asked ME if I didn't have my regs when I dive.

Rescued the Out of Air Newby today

I only got as far as DumpsterDiver' post in thread. In my world a diver hits 800, he is gone. A young friend of mine who did his OW with my daughter rescued an aoa diver because the guy did not listen to the briefing. The kid was leading the dive, and tourist showed him his spg. Kid nods and...

Rescued the Out of Air Newby today

Good thing. OMG. 2 ATMs and 12 cf of gas I see a recipe for disaster. I'm not in the best of shape since a an accident, and I can barely freedive to 40 feet. Just wow.

    Thanks

I'm bummed again. Glad I at least have one pair of FF's. I wanted badly to check out the Hockey fins. Bob: Dan V had a pair of your's that he offered to let me test before he returned them. I couldn't manage the timing and neither one of us wanted to put you out. Wishing you the best and we...

Stay Away from Florida Keys Dive Center

Ya know I can't agree with the op on his boat complaints. I do wonder however why he wasn't permitted to test his tanks. Every shop I use here provides gauges to check tank pressure when you pick them up. In fact if it's a nitrox tank the diver must analyze mix AND pressure for the log...

    Jacket BC or Wing BC

I admit I missed the 5 knot. My point about the snorkeler was the difference in currents between the bottom and the surface. I just can't see a snorkeler in local conditions being able to hang back with divers on the bottom.

    Jacket BC or Wing BC

I googled Barracuda. Barracuda Reef, Cozumel If a snorkeler moves at the same speed as a diver on the bottom, you're in a different world from the sites Dan and DD are discussing. The link above sounds more like Boynton. Not that there's anything wrong with that

I'm somewhat confused as well. This wasn't a coke changing their formula ad campaign, lol. Seriously glad Force Fins will still be around.
