    bolt snaps and cave line

The big difference it, that normal nylon is usually buoyant. Cave line is negatively buoyant. If you just tie a boltsnap it doesn't really matter which u choose.. If you need to put a line, or use a spool with a dsmb. A negatively buoyant cave line is better

Supporting my local dive shop(s) is frustrating

I did buy all my stuff after owd, before my first real dive. I don't regret any buys, besides the retractors and clips.. Which were not too expensive. But I know many people which bought crap and had to rebuy everything. I think there is 2 different "good" ways. 1: rent and try the gear 2...

Supporting my local dive shop(s) is frustrating

Hmm. 2 high quality coldwater first stages with 2 equivalent second stages its already 600-1000. Get a good semi dry suit:500-900 Bcd/BP 300-700 Perdix with transmitter:1500 Mask fins and all that are not too expensive. Maybe 300 in total. Get some stuff here and there and I can see you can...

    Fun facts about Nautilus...

Some sharks also trap air to become neutral. But it's an interesting creature. It's definitely a creature from another time

A very big Bull shark sighted near Jupiter

That's a great white painted as a bull Crazy size! The jaw looks similar to the sand tiger shark in the aquarium video which was discussed here recently.

Picking up rocks and combing through seaweed?

I am very strict about not touching anything. I am also very strict about silting up the bottom. Of yours in lakes it's not that bad and it CAN happen. But if a diver constantly kicks up plants and silt I tell him so stay away from the bottom, or fix his kicks/trim. Yes I fly, and I do other...

Yellow hoses and Yellow regulator Question

I had a conversation about this topic recently. First of course you want to be pro active, so color doesn't matter. But let's say you didn't see it coming. The OOA diver is coming towards you. He sees the yellow hose under your arm, and graps it. What will happen? Not much, especially if it's a...

How to calculate total air consumption along ascent?

He wants to know this for a theoretical task. 22.5l is the amount of air needed. It's not said the he has no air left. For example: when calculating min gas you want to know how much gas you consume during ascent. And of course you plan to have 50bar(or whatever) to have still left. So it's...

How to calculate total air consumption along ascent?

15l on surface, 30l on 10m 10m/min ascent rate Takes 1 minute to reach the surface. Average depth will be 5m. So it's the same as you would stay at 5m for 1 minute. Consumption at 5m: 15l * 1.5 =22.5l/min Because you need 1 minute it's 22.5l

    Air share

OK. Personally I would consider air sharing during a deco dive as an accident. Which luckily doesn't cause any harm. But if the DM could not share gas then you would not have enough to finish the deco. Just recently there was a accident here, where exactly this happened. "planned deco" on...

    Air share

That's a bit shocking. "A planned deco" with not enough gas. Just saying:"I go in to deco" is not really planned deco. Were you on single tank, or had equipment failure?

    Air share

Because you have used your safety device. If something happens now you Have no other option, then buddy breathing or cesa. 15m might be no problem for a cesa for you, but you don't know how a stranger would react. Especially if you breath from 1 first stage, the stress on the stage is doubled...

    Air share

I think continue a dive while air sharing is dangerous. But I understand, that a DM might feel the pressure to continue the dive. it's a difficult topic. I am interested in other opinions

Which kind of diver are you with respect to gear?

I wish I would be in group 1.but good gear is very interesting.. And makes diving more comfortable.. And I would Love to service my own gear. So yes group 2 for me, even I am not that crazy about gear. I think there are multiple levels of group 2. I am in a light version. And then there are...

    Air share

Based on this thread: Regulator Set up - input from more experienced divers, please I wonder how man of you had to share air? I would like to hear the story's, especially what the OOA diver took, primary or octo? Was he in panic? A buddy or just someone you meet underwater? I never had to...

    Anti-anxiety meds

It could be that, the mess make narcosis worse especially since they make you slow in thinking. 100% go to a dive(!) doctor before you take them. Or/and call Dan.
