    Trader Rating disappeared

Hi Scubaboard staff: My trader rating (positive 1) disappeared. I don't know if the purchaser withdrew my positive feedback (which would show up on my CP right?) or if it disappeared with the server crash. Is there any way of restoring it? Or finding out who absconded with my solitary bit...

    Should I not buy a suunto d9?

The transmitter sync range on the Suunto is deliberately set low to reduce the chance of interference with other divers when syncing. My Vytec has to be within a foot or so of the transmitter to sync. Love the Vytec, no experience using the D9. Why should the compass not work as well underwater?

    scubapro jet revos

Does anyone know if these (Revo model is a new variant on the old jets) are on sale in the US, or if there is a reliable international source? I'm interested because of the deeper foot pocket. Thanks, Slingshot

    Bahamas or Cozumel??

I don't know of any regular sightings of whalesharks off Cozumel, but in the summer (approximately July-August) there are opportunities to see whale sharks north of Cozumel at Isla Holbox. I don't think you can scuba dive with them, only snorkel.

Shark attacks surfer in Monterey Bay

The newscast said Lovers (perhaps I misheard?), but I have seen elsewhere on the board that it was Aumentos (off of Pacific Grove).

Shark attacks surfer in Monterey Bay

Chan 7 news last night had a segment with two scubadivers who said they were spearfishing off Lovers this week when they encountered a curious great white. One said he jabbed it with his speargun as it was making a close pass.

    Diving Cozumel from Mainland: Advice?

Thanks for all the info, looks like the 6am ferry for me. Hope I don't fall asleep and make the roundtrip unintentionally! Any tips on when to show up for the ferry? Any info on cab fare to PDC from Mayakoba?

    Diving Cozumel from Mainland: Advice?

Is there a "rush hour" on the morning or evening ferries? I seem to remember two ferry companies, any reason to choose one over the other? Thanks for the input on Scuba Du, Liquid Blue, and Blue Angel. I'm curious about the Living Underwater folks meeting your friend in PDC, unless one of...

    Diving Cozumel from Mainland: Advice?

Aldora is apparently running a late boat for mainland folks, but I have to look into it.

    Diving Cozumel from Mainland: Advice?

Hi folks: I'll be in the Mayakoba area in January, just north of Playa Del Carmen, and hope to do some dives in Cozumel, my second dive trip to the area. Does anyone have recommendations as to how best to get in dives on Cozumel when staying on the mainland? I'm obliged to do my diving by...

    C4 or C4 eLED?

An additional consideration is that the beam pattern of the eLED is more even than the standard C4, in part because of the reflector cut-out for the twin bulb design of the incandescent lamps.

California Dive Center, Moving or Closed?

The "change of heart" also means he keeps the cash my brother-in-law spent on a gift certificate for us in December, when it was a "we're moving" sale. Kinda low. Can anyone else confirm that they are gone?

California Dive Center, Moving or Closed?

Does anyone know if the California Dive Center formerly of San Bruno is gone for good? There were some posts about 8 months ago from one of their instructors saying they were having a moving sale, but their website is gone. Funny, a search of old posts showed that this question was asked...

    Tip the captain

What is perceived as good service will vary by location and by individual. On a commercial boat in Hawaii, you often have someone carrying your tank and rig to the dive step. In California, you are more often left to your own devices, and frankly, many people prefer it that way. A good...

    Dangerous Hurricane Dean

I was in Cozumel about 6 months after Wilma, and know how hard people on the island worked to get things back into shape. I wish all in the storm's path safety and luck. Do governments of affected or threatened islands/coasts shut down flights, or is it in part up to the airlines?

    Surf Ski Kayaks

I've towed other kayaks behind me, but towing unstreamlined dive gear sounds like a bad idea to me, especially in the surf zone. Surf skis are pretty unstable, I wouldn't even want to dive from my sea kayak which has a 23" beam and is more stable than a ski. How about a Hawaiian type outrigger?

    Shark Bumper stickers

Does anyone know what's the meaning of the bumper stickers with the outline of a shark on a white background in a red circle with a red slash through it? I've seen a variant with a shark on a white background with a heart-shaped red outline. Is this a local thing? I've seen the stickers a lot...

    New Member-Cuan Law

I also took the ferry from St. Thomas the day before the trip. Can't remember the name of the hotel we stayed at the night before we boarded, it wasn't that memorable though it was in town. A tip if you use the ferry, and for liveaboards in general, bring earplugs. It will help with the...
