Wanted: Destination suggestions for extended diving & learning

Coco View Resort - includes food, 2 boats/day, and unlimited shore diving (wreck and two walls). Nice venue for instruction using the shore dive! Estimated from Detroit: $2628, but traveling mid-week can save a bunch. Scuba Club Cozumel - includes food and 2-tank boat per day, unlimited shore...

    Camera suggestion needed!

I use a Sealife Micro with a tray and SeaDragon video light. The light is not a strobe, but still makes for very good photos. Plus, I use the light as my primary when night diving, which is HUGELY BRIGHT. Note too that the Micro is a sealed camera, with no housing to leak or need maintenance.

What do you look for in a vacation rental?

I always have lots of stuff to charge (camera, strobe, UW lights, etc), and would appreciate a 'charging station'. I envision a table or cabinet with multiple spaces, with multiple power outlets all over. At home, I choose my power strips carefully, so they can accommodate plugs and bricks of...

Messed up my OW dive - advice for the future please?

Hi AllyBee Glad you got a partial refund. It's pretty common to deflect blame, and was the predictable response. We all do it at some level. I really hope you find a good instructor. There are several regional European sub-groups here on scubaboard. Asking for recommendations might uncover...

Why not SPG under the left arm to left Chest D ring?

Thanks for the reply. Seems to be working great for you. I'm not a worry-wort, OCD, or anal retentive, so don't take my inquiries/comments as anything other than conversational. Not diving on a wreck really minimizes the chances of snagging on things. Frankly, I don't know where/how you...

Why not SPG under the left arm to left Chest D ring?

Hmmm. I'm really suspect of anything pull-to-release. I'm so tired of seeing people unaware their SPG or Octo is just dragging along. How strong are the magnets? Will you notice if you snag on something and pull one away? Some of those neodymium magnets are really strong, but also brittle...

    Thoughts on breathable inflators?

They are typically called integrated power inflators. The most popular models are SS1 and Air2. Use the search feature, you'll find so many opinions and arguments that you're head will spin. Ignore those with extreme opinions. Good luck.

Where did this little devil come from?

Apologies. Just curious if that o-ring hadn't fallen off, would you have known about the spool?

What are the accessories that you will always dive with, and why ?

Really, I get feedback on the banana and M4, but nobody cares about the spare thong?

What are the accessories that you will always dive with, and why ?

I'd leave it alone, and maybe thumb the dive. Personal preferences. Maybe we need a new thread "What would you attempt to fix without surfacing?" Might be a good discussion.

Where did this little devil come from?

Flyboy, I'm all for DIY, but you probably shouldn't have missed this important part. I suggest you get online and google 'how to' and learn these things as you do them. Lots of great videos out there!

What are the accessories that you will always dive with, and why ?

I prefer a 26pcs Harbor Freight ratchet set ;) You plan to work on your gear under water? What exactly might you repair? My list is below in approximate order. Type/depth of dive changes/shortens the list dramatically. cutting tool dSMB+spool Nautilus Lifeline flashlight (or 3) 2nd Cutting...

    Mistakes on first "real" dives

This is the first time I've heard of a scenario that explains why Advance Open Water might be a good choice immediately after OW. Generally, I have felt that getting a little experience between OW and AOW is a good thing. Getting some knowledge and practice before AOW would allow the student...

    Best mask for a mustasche??

I'm surprised they don't make a mask with those super soft gelatinous materials like on my CPAP nasal pillows. Granted they are disposable, but mine last for 6 months before they fail catastrophically. Maybe a mask could have a replaceable gel mustache add-on. If it failed, you just rip it...

New member looking for advice on diving with fillings

Not that I'm a worldly person, but I've never heard of this happening. It isn't a common topic on Scubaboard. Maybe you don't know, but if something can possibly happen it will be routinely discussed here as if it is a common deadly occurrence. Some people go way overboard. I therefore...

Messed up my OW dive - advice for the future please?

Hi AllyBee, I'd like to get this thread back on track a little, and just share some basics. Sometimes experts forget that new people don't know the basics. For all those experts out there, I'm just sharing general and typical info. I know there are lots of technicalities and details that...

    Aqualung Outlaw

Would the placement of the weights on the Outlaw tend to make me less roll stable, compared to a BCD with front/side pouch placement? Maybe the closeness of the tank to my spine would help?

    CocoView Group - February?

Hi all, I'm thinking of going to CocoView in February 2019. Dates are flexible. Anyone have a group I can join? I don't mind booking a solo trip, but prefer a organized group. Even if they are strangers, having a head-start on making new friends is a huge attraction.
