learning american - bar to psi conversion?

Well I'm hoping there won't be a need and if what Paco says is correct there won't be. I simply wanted to be able to convert if I got a buddy or dm who referred to psi when I was used to and have gauges using bar.

learning american - bar to psi conversion?

Thanks all - I'll be taking my own gear so wasn't worried about reading my own gauges but thought I should know in case I got a briefing or something that said "head up at x psi" or a buddy waving their gauge at me to tell me how much gas they had left or something....

learning american - bar to psi conversion?

I'm headed to the carribean shortly and I know american (and therefore i presume carribean) dive ops tend to use psi instead of bar. Can anyone just confirm the relevant conversion ratios and give any tips on anything specific to the us type diving ops I need to know?

Read JJ's book - What's all the fuss about?

saw JJ talk last year at London International Dive Show. Considering he was talking for about an hour with no notes on a range of subjects some of which quite scientific I thought he was one of the most impressive speakers I've seen. I don't dive DIR but couldn't argue with any of his logic or...

I have to get in the water with sharks!

'twas I. This is from Big Brother island the spot in Egypt Simon mentioned This was a small shark (2m-ish) that turned up at our safety stop and circled about 20metres beneath our feet - I dropped as close as I dared without totally destroying my profile.;) At least this shows the shape of...

    Are U/W Photographers a PITA?

personally speaking because my dad can't dive anymore and I want to be able to share with him what I saw, not what David Doubillet, Alcina or anyone else saw (even if there pics are better than mine) but thats just me. I think the rise in cheap housings has a lot to do with this bad press for...

    Panic Attacks?

Saw an epic panic attack on a drift dive a few years back. A group of us were diving a multilevel drift along a wall in frankly sensational viz when the current really picked up and we started to really fly quickly we decided to abort and were heading up to our stop when the female buddy in a...

Lets look at things from a different angle.

a very honest post and you've obviously took advatage of the situation you were in and learned the lessons presented. for me the key is this - if i can't be smart/bothered/worried enough to ensure i dive safely why should i assume anyone else will be? there are any number of buddy nullifying...

    Who has seen this shark????

I've never understood why these shows always try to id a "prime suspect" species for events like the indianopolis. Theres no reason as far as I can see for any number of sharks (Tiger, oceanic, silky, silvertip, blue and others) not to turn up in a blue water sinking event.

    Regulator got dunked

I still don't understand why people do what they do in their wetsuits. I (and most people i know) can sit in a cinema for 2 hours watching a film for two hours without soiling my khakis why can't people last for an hour on a dive? (I appreciate there is some sort of physiological effect as a...

124 ft without a buddy and not liking it.

Maybe but whose fault was your lack of comfort? Mom and Teens, other couple who didn't buddy up tight enough for you, dm, chap who put you all on the same boat? Ultimately only your own skills will be what keeps you comfortable when things go bad. Accepting that you all got separated, which...

    Unidentified critter

They are nocturnal Gaynor they are also tiny, tend to bury themselves and are, imo, the most beautiful of all cephalopods - sadly I got no photos the one time I've seen one but this site has some crackers: http://www.sergeyphoto.com/underwater/cephalopods/bobtailsquid.html

    Best dive site names....

Whats the best/funniest/most descriptive dive site name you've come across? We've all dived a "shark reef/rock/point" with no sharks or an "anemone city" which is a...erm...rock covered in anemones but which sites had a name which caught your imagination or had a great story or just made you...

Am I right to be irritated?

What Xanthro said re the dm is spot on. With regard to the same dive site twice, I have absolutely no problem with that - I once did a holiday where I did the same sites every morning and evening for 6 days (admittedly it helped that we did 2 different ones every day in between and they were...

What can I touch when I dive in Monterey?

safe to assume that wasn't the peak performance buoyancy class then? very disappointing to see and that would result in a fairly serious post dive debrief and a referral to PADI if I dived with that outfit (not sure whether they'd act over something like this).

    Bahamas shark buoy

Does anybody know if its still possible to dive that buoy with the silkies off of (I think) New Providence. I can't seem to find any uptodate info and seem to remember hearing the buoy was decommissioned.

    Is this real?

    a) theres nothing in the picture indicating it was taken in the tropics; b) theres a thread above this, and loads of other evidence, regarding GWS in Hawaii but other than that excellent point.;)
