Dove at Casino Point in Catalina on Saturday. I was hoping to do some wide angle photos of the kelp (using my new 8" dome and 12-24 lens), but the water was quite trashy, so I shot macro. Temps were fairly cold (53-54 deg F) and vis was 20 feet. I didn't see anything too noteable, accept for...
An even better price is at www.preservesmart.com. You can buy 50 for $15 or 200 for $45. They are color changing (purple when dry and pink when used) so you can tell how much life they have left. You can also recharge (dry) them easily in a low temperature oven. I keep a small stash of them...
Bill,
I'm sure that your strobe shadow has anything to do with zooming. I think that it might be a strobe aiming issue. You might try some shots out of the water.

In the dome instruction manual, it talks about smaller port clips for people with older housings. I don't know which you have. The old larger ports would not allow the port body to fully seat.
With my dome (and the medium body), the attachement is compelete, but it doesn't seem as "solid"...
Its not all about the megapixels. Look at the other things that you are missing. Only three focus spots. No motor for the lense (adios 60mm macro). The D40(x) is to small for my hands. I'm sure that there are other differences that might be important.

I use one of these. I can snap it closed and keep it tight to my body when I'm not taking pictures. I would never take a camera without a lanyard or at least a wrist strap. I wouldn't even use a wrist strap on a camera that I cared about.
I snap the lanyard to one of my bcd d-rings.

I would go for the ball and socket system - its much more adjustable. If you decide you want the straight arm piece like shown below, I'll sell you a nearly new one for cheap (they're $60 new).

That would be the order of cheapest to most expensive. As with many things in life, the order for most desireable to least (at least in my mind), runs Sea & Sea to Fantasea. I compromised on money and features and bought the Ikelite for my D80.

I've been wondering what the origin of your screen name is. What's the story? You name certainly is memorable, although I always think "ThatsSomeBadHatHAIR" when I see it. Perhaps thats because of my aversion to "hat head" when I wear a baseball cap...
This is the Inon lens holder. It attaches to an ULCS arm. I used mine to hold a 67mm URPro lens and a macro lense. The WAL could also attach (anything with a 67mm thread). I would call this a must have if you are using ULCS arms and wetmount lenses.
I could make you a deal on a gently...
Apparently this green moray was used to being fed. The divemaster brought a bucket (empty large bottle with door cut into it) but there was no food left. He kept putting the bottle in the face of the eel (who started free swimming). The eel became agitated and started swimming at the other...
I call this guy Sean Penn, because of his dislike for underwater paparazzi. I was taking several photos of him and he must have gotten tired of my DS-125 flashing in his eye. He decided to take matters into his own hands - or tentacles, as it was. He reached out and grabbed my housing with...
...and then the Mantis shrimp handed Dr. Bill a script!
By the way, Dr. Bill, saw you photos of the senorita and kelpfish in the March California Diving News. Nice behavior. Were those stills from a movie?

Be sure to check out your lens options to make sure you can get suitable macro, wide-angle, and fish-eye lenses (as well as those for topside). I don't know much about the Sony lenses.
