Perhaps the issue is how the line is treated?
If the line keeps entrapping divers then it´s "obviously" not laid well enough. Keep it tight and make more tie-offs if needed. There´s also the issue of "line followers" vs. "cave divers"...you need to reference the line and know how to get to it...
What I´m saying is that the dive isn´t over until you break the surface, your O2 is part of your delimiting factor at that depth and the basis of my actions during a dive.
I do the same thing (pressurize then shut off valve) but there are still a fair number of scenarios where O2 becomes a...
I wouldn´t turn on the backups until you need them for obvious reasons...
I think the "old reasons" against rechargeables aren´t valid anymore. One of my backups is currently serving as a bicycle-light as well and I´ve been toying with the idea of going rechargeable for it but...regular ones...
Wonder what my pics say about me? Maybe Geoff_H could open an "picture reading thread"?
It would be interesting...
Oh...there was a poll...non-dir, if I wasn´t in the process of aquiring a MCCR, i´d likely have voted differently...or maybe not but I´d have taken dir-f "just because"...
If you have an spg on your BG you should have it on your deco tank. The logic, pros/cons and trade-offs are exactly the same...
It could be argued that any diver who knows their SAC, depth and pay attention to their profile doesen´t need an spg. If something happens, you should notice. If...
I have a hard time imagining that any individual is able to function in "our" society without at least some ability to apply critical thinking to their external interactions.
With regards to decompression, the only thing I´m confident in is that all the possible solutions to any given problem...
True, but it´s almost as much fun as watching the inspector :D
On a more serious note, you need to have a base level of comfort for it to work, but IMO, if you don´t then you propably shouldn´t do the kinds of dives the OP described...
One thing I and my regular buddies do is agree to doing improvised drills during a dive once in a while. That means pretty much any drill goes and every diver is free to initiate a drill at any time. You could for example be trying to take a pic of a nudi when someone flashes you with their...
You can do it manually...the easiest way would be to look up the code for one of the open source decoprograms out there...in the code you´ll find the formulas used to calculate the output of the decoprograms...it won´t be easy and the math is "a bit" above highschool level so you may find it a...
Thailand has lots of resorts, it´s really well developed so you can pick and choose your level of standard, lot´s of "pretty fish dives", not so many wrecks. It´s part of the "regular offering" of the big charter companies here, maybe you´ll have to look harder or arrange it yourself in the...
The (IANTD) definition of a cavern dive is any dive in overhead with LESS than 120ft linear distance to the surface, MORE than that and it´s a cavedive. If you enter a swimthru at 100ft it can´t be more than 40ft long before it becomes a cavedive which is no place to be without the appropriate...
I saw your profile said NACD/NSS-CDS which is the agencies used for my course as well...are you sure that it´s mandatory to combine them with those courses? I thought the "regular" full cave cert allowed both deco and trimix? That´s what I was told and certainly what the NACD book implied...
I did it all at once. I think that I spent 8 days of straight 24/7, "nothing but cave-diving", helped ingrain the right habits from the start. I also felt that the whole 8 days where spent with the bar at the "full cave level" and that it was beneficial to my learning...
I think it depends on...
Yes. If I remember correctly we didn´t have a single accident during the change-over...With a bit of organisation and pre-planning it´s not that hard...
Guess that leaves out most of the "civilized" world ;)
I started out with a bungeed OMS-wing that I used for all my diving. I then bought a smaller "corded" wing from Dive-Rite for all my diving. I then bought a single´s wing for singles and removed the cord (and all the "bits"). I wouldn´t have gone thru that process unless I felt that the...
The "deep air" of PADI/DSAT takes it right of my list. I just wouldn´t want to do training dives to 160ft on air, particularly not if my instructor is forced to be just as narced as I would be.
I know you can pick your path thru the IANTD program without hitting ENDs below 90ft (if you want...
