Question Advice on Divemaster course in Philippines - April 2022

Just completed my DM in December, there is some theory in the e-learning that I did but not everything I wanted to learn. I think the most important skills you get out of DM training is watching others, anticipating problems, and being in a spot to intervene before something becomes a Big...

    The Philippines is open!

My flight was about $2k but I got Delta Premium select because it was only $200 more and would get me extra baggage and a lot more legroom. Not sure if best choice, because I generally prefer laying down across several seats and can't sleep on my back, but that's what I did. Plane not very full...

    The Philippines is open!

Going to be doing some underwater photography with Anilao Photo Academy! Hopefully working on getting better at macro focus, diopter use, snooting, and composition. I'm really excited to be getting out there before it's full of tourists.

This is the message I got from the Tourism Director-Attache, Philippine Department of Tourism, who is based in NYC.

    The Philippines is open!

I'm trying to figure out if they will accept the paper vaccination card, and if there's another option just in case they don't.

    Turks and Caicos Aggressor II

Went with them Sept-Oct 2021 and boat seemed a wee bit disorganized but good amenities and great food. Reefs were in poor condition, but some awesome night dives with feeding nurse and reef sharks. 5 dives a day can't be beat!

How are the logistics working out for these sailings? Curious to hear how liveaboards in Indo are doing now!

combine Raja Ampat with land based location?

Indonesia is my favoritest place to dive because of the colors and the multitudes of fish, warm water (mostly, Alor has some nippy thermoclines), and the amazing biodiversity. After having discovered it, I try to spend at least 3 weeks there every year because I just can't get enough. I haven't...

combine Raja Ampat with land based location?

I'm hoping to do 16 day LOB in October (if it's going to run) then some amount of time diving in Alor after.

    Alor, best dive resort? ?

There's also Lazy Turtle Dive, which is where I plan to go as it is highly recommended by a friend who I think has good taste in diving. Dive Alor | Lazy Turtle Dive Alor | Indonesia

Papua New Guinea or Maybe Something Else?

My vote goes for Maldives, on a 2 week liveaboard going to the extreme south to see tiger sharks. Good for experienced divers because strong currents and big wildlife. Tropical, and a long history of dealing with COVID (and a highly vaccinated population, especially in the tourism sector). Spent...

Raja Ampat Liveaboard for Nov 2023

If you're looking for whale sharks, also consider Maldives... Definitely recommend Lembeh for Macro, and any night/muck dive you can go on. I love Mermaid liveaboard where they had 4 guests per dive guide and divided people up by experience and dive style. If you travel with other photo folks...

    Land base diving reccomendations

There really is not a lot of shore diving in the Maldives because of currents, distance of reef from shore, and the unhealthy state of most of the reefs. I stayed on Dhangethi island for 2 weeks a couple years ago and dove with South Ari Dive center, they had a dhoni and would go out to local...

Choice of Fins for Maldive Channel Dives: Scubapro GO Travel Fins (Size xxs) or Aqualung Hot Spot with Booties

I've done about 100 dives in Maldives with the Go Fin (size large though, so a bigger blade), they aren't the most powerful but current tricks like staying close to the reef and using the reef hook helped out. I personally like the bootie because it prevents blisters on the tops of toes, and a...
