I'm surprised that nobody in the US checked my test result on the way in. It was checked to fly to Korea, but when I was flying out, each country I was in checked all of my documents at least once. Not sure if it was overkill to get the PCR test since I was flying through South Korea and they...
Still on my way home, it's been a while. They were weather delays and I missed my flight home, managed to rebook to a city 2 hours away and just worked out the logistics of getting home from there when we don't own a car and no rental car places are open. I'm so tired. I miss falling off of boats.
Case numbers are lower in the Philippines, and more people wear masks. The country also has a reasonably mandatory contact tracing app that everyone uses.
No covid to my knowledge in anyone around me, people are required to wear masks when out on the street, but not so much within the walls of the academy. We all have contact tracing app on phones. Nobody's gotten sick at the academy. I went to get my test results this morning at 9:00 a.m., I got...
Today, some current interfered with my plans to photograph the most beautiful nudi I've ever seen. 3 day dives and a shore dive from our back door. The other diver in our group found that his 3mm wasn't enough, and went for a 5mm with hood. I feel justified in my coldness!
One of the perks of blackwater diving... Not sure I'm happy about paying $60 a dive for it because you could see absolutely nothing or you could see Nautilus and blanket octopus... It's all really based on luck. The other guy who's staying here really likes black water diving and his photography...
I saw my first nautilus today! It went zoom zoom zoom. Not sure I'm into blackwater diving yet, because the photography is *difficult* but all the cool kids are doing it.
Today we saw a pair of ghost pipefish, leaf scorpion fish, hairy shrimp, leaf sheep, some new nudis... Site called coconuts. Sandy bottom with all kinds of goodies hidden in the sand.
I generally do a night dive every night if I'm allowed to, I love night diving! Over here, a black water dive means diving in open water with hundreds (ideally thousands) of feet of water between us and the bottom. You got cool beasties sometimes that come up from the deep, and it's a really...
I was in heaven when I was on an Aggressor liveaboard where we did five dives a day most days! I did every single one.
Today I saw nudibranches having sex. The photos are going to be crappy because I was having some trouble with my strobes, but I know what I saw and it was pretty awesome!
(no...
I want to post, but the internet situation is not ideal! I've been editing photos but the laptop isn't online. And I've been really exhausted from the diving. It's been a busy few days!
This is why I provide a concrete number so that people can decide what's cold for them. My experience of temperature is different from most peoples', I'm always cold at what people consider to be normal room temperature, and I'm only warm and happy when the temperature is over 80°F indoors.
I...
Another day of diving, today I found a lovely peacock mantis shrimp and my dive guide found quite the assortment of lovely nudis. We visited the pygmy seahorses again for round 2 of photos. And we saw a big turtle! 70-80 minute dives with 1 hour surface interval.
Water continues to be 26c.
Water temperature right now is between 25 and 26°, 27 at the surface in some places. I'm wearing a Bare Evolve 5mm and spending about four and a half hours in the water daily. The air temperature is not that hot, being outside is somewhere between room temperature and pleasantly warm, never too...
