Is the DPV considered a "boat"?

DPV's are not vessels, and don't require vessel registration. Jet ski's, however do. ORS 830.005 (2) "Boat" means every description of watercraft, including a seaplane on the water and not in flight, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on the water, a scooter is...

    Double steel 80s with backplate/wing, $250

Man, that's a smokin deal for LP80's. Makes me want to to visit CA.

Seriously, I could leave this on repeat. It's great.

Grand Cayman, sell it to me!

Just got back from Grand Cayman. Yes to Sunshine Suites - get one w/ a kitchenette - we did and saved over $ 300.00 on meals. They charge 150.00 for incidentals - which is refundable- and also $ 35.00 a day as a resort fee which is not. By staying at Sunshine Suites- you still get access to...

    GoPro leaking issues?

I've been diving the Go Pro Super suit UW housing on my new GoPro6. It's the same exact clear plastic housing as the 5. Cost about $ 50.00 Supposed to be usable down to 196 ft. (Not 197 ? Go figure.) To get the camera into that clear plastic housing though - ya gotta take off the GoPro...

    Things you've found under water

I've found weights, marine batteries, a tape measure...and one time a duffel bag - that was weighted- and I was too creeped out to open it and see what was inside. Seen way too many horror films. I regret that only a bit now. Could have been a stack of unmarked 100's, or weapons, or a severed...

Santi Smart Seals and Kubi system

Markus - I'm thinking the same thing as AJ. Those Santi Seals are making it a mis-match for the Kubi rings. If you can take those Santi seals off ? Are they removeable ? Then just attached kubi rings all around- this would be fairly straightforward, yeah ? The existing suits seals mated...

GoPro 6 w/ dive housing - how do you secure it ?

Before I really started thinking about my Hogarthian diving system, of which I've been heading that way more and more lately - I had a great deal on getting a GoPro 6...and now that I've done it Im curious how do you begin to secure this thing to your rig ? Here's what I was thinking. Any...

Seven Mile Beach - 1st Week Oct!

Called Indigo Divers- they answered the phone long enough to say they are all taking a holiday - and to call Deep Blue, which I then did. Nick at Deep Blue sent out a van to pick me up Wednesday AM- and our group of divers all headed out to North Wall. The waves were so amazingly big, though...

    Arrogance and humility among divers

I see that ego puffing pretty rarely anymore with scuba...seems like they've moved on - or maybe I have. I saw it too with fencing ( epee, foil, and sabre ) back in the 90's. I'm at a point now with diving where the folks on the boat are all pretty calm and realistic with each other. If...

New wing - totally over-thinking this!

The stainless steel inflator buttons wont change the buoyancy characteristics of the wing - they're too small for that - but they should be able to handle, say, dive gear being put on them without cracking. I would want something metal.

    Switching to backplate and wing

Golem Gear makes a SS plate with 35 lb wing - I'm diving this in cold Puget Sound waters ( drysuit) with about 22 lbs of weight. Wearing a LP Faber 95 c/f tank...and not too shabby ! Was about $ 400.00 with the taxes and shipping. I really like the minimal design of this thing, and have...

    Got Lost on a Dive

Chalk this one up to a great learning dive. You learned a lot from just this one - so - welcome to the club. We've all been through our own version of exactly that sort of situation. If I had any .02 to give - it would be to check that compass heading when you had decided towards the end of...

    Interested getting into hull cleaning

I had thought if you were scraping off any hull paint - it could not be allowed into Puget Sound waters - so every boat has to be hauled out into a dry dock scenario before the scraping work could begin. Most of those paints are amazingly toxic - on purpose- you don't want critters growing on...

Fills dry or in water bath?

A few years ago - I would see only a few wet fill baths at my local shops. Every single one of these baths has disappeared. Owners and staff were all probably all thinking in agreement- why are we risking introducing moisture into these tanks during the fill process? Nobody in Seattle is in...

    Contaminated air = headache

I'm sure I got some bad air in Kauai once. I got sick underwater, and surfaced. About two minutes later my dive buddy surfaced and he hurled on the surface. That was the most brink of panic experience. Never again. Awful. I suspect the fill generators intake was - like most air compressors-...

    Yelled at for MOF

You could have just countered with a really snarky, "I KNOW YOU ARE, BUT WHAT AM I " ? That worked pretty well in elementary school. Or said something like, " Well, I wasn't in distress until you started your psychobilly freakout...now I might be a stressed diver. " It sounds like this...

    Logging dives

Wait just a tic. Cave diving? Or do you mean cavern ? Personally I stopped logging my dives. I didn't need to show anybody my dive log, unlike folks who take up flying - where the FAA might come knocking some day.

    Specific Boat Diving Gear Management

Some boats have a tiny enough box- think: plastic milk basket - that holds fins, mask, gloves, dive light. The BC and regs are typically - all attached to the AL80's on their benches. You might want a small duffel that can carry from car to the boat, then tuck it out of the way. My...
