Hawaii, Bahamas or Cayman in August

Too early for big hurricanes in Cayman, some of the calmest days of the year. Great visibility, sun is bright and the water warm. Hawaii and Bahamas sound fun too!! The most awesome spot in the world, in my opinion, is Maui.

    C. Brac: Nov vs Dec?

Nov and Dec weather is fine. Water still warm and the winds will come, but you will have a day to go to Little Cayman. Personally, when everyone heads to LC, I will grab tanks and head to the South East coast. Awesome deep walls. Plenty of fun dives if the East and Northeast winds blow...

New Diver injured in training...who is responsible?

Always a risk of ear injury whenever you go under water. Injury usually occurs going down, unless reverse block. It's hard to blame anyone if the ears were injured on the descend. I've injured mine diving to the bottom of a 12 foot pool, and unfortunately it's been ringing ever since...

My guide to homes in Brac No duty on your building materials. Buy a lot and build what you want. 2 x 40 foot containers should hold all materials for a house. 8 grand to ship both. Easy. Then you can build what you want and where you want. Lowes and Home Depot ship out of Miami. No...

    Cayman Brac "kinda" live blog

Well, I think the people on Brac are wonderful to be around. It's the ideal place to live. In terms of things to do, spearfish, fish from the shore, fish from a boat, rock climb, ride a bike, hike, look for treasure, find someone to take you waterskiing, paddle board, borrow a jet ski, swim...

    Cayman Brac "kinda" live blog

The restaurant and bar/pool are open for business. I go there instead of BRR, staff is awesome and the little bar has excellent food. I don't look at the prices, just give them a credit card. Wife stays and relaxes and I dive public beach. Always see sharks on the wall. Dive ops rarely...

    Cayman Brac "kinda" live blog

I think that's why Alexander couldn't stay open.. Check the new proposed DOE map, some of the Northside west of Tibbet's turn may be a NO dive area as is the very tip East end. I believe it's passed the initial steps, don't know when it is finalized. So if you like shore diving, look...

There is a tiny blue cayman cottage near the old Divi, right on the sand beach.. Don't know if it's for sale, but it's the prettiest beach and view in the Cayman's. Tiny, but a recent renovation. Maybe give you some ideas. Cheers

I really want to learn to scuba, but I smoke

According to DAN, smoking is a risk for diving. https://www.danap.org/DAN_diving_safety/DAN_Doc/pdfs/smoking.pdf Of course you can dive if you smoke, but the risks for dive injury is greater than the non smoker. Just because some instructor smokes 2 packs a day for 30years doesn't mean it's...

Trouble catching my breath at the beginning of dive .... after 10 yrs of diving?

Agree with RyanT. I had a buddy start exhibiting these "anxiety" symptoms and never payed much attention. He exercised daily and was in excellent shape. Come to find out he was going into Afib. I guess the stress of diving triggered it. He is on a med and no more high anxiety...

    My questionable rebreather training experience

Interesting statement. I only hear it's the DM's fault or Instructors fault. Especially in a lawsuit. I agree, if the instructor isn't giving adequate training the fault is all on him/her. I also think it's up to the dive industry to monitor its instructors and get rid of the incompetent...

    My questionable rebreather training experience

Back to basic diving. Why is the buoyancy issue you described in Grand Turk the fault of the instructor? If everything was empty, which I doubt from the extreme positive buoyancy, the basic weighting to begin with was incorrect. Short of losing a weight belt, you should have been able to...
